I’m immensely proud to be one of the 150k members of the FSB and am amazed at what it achieves for small businesses - considering so many are not members yet benefit from the “wins”.
Considering it is completely self-funded (and led) by us, the members; it is incredible what it does.
Yes, there are some businesses that are missing out on the Covid-19 Government support (including ours) but it is not from lack of effort from the FSB.
Thanks FSB

We have been members of the FSB for over three years. During this time we have received support and advice from our local manager and we continue to benefit from regular updates regarding the pandemic. It is very reassuring, as a small business in a rural area, to have professional advice readily available. I would recommend FSB membership to any self employed individual, especially in these difficult times. I have every confidence that our voices are being heard by the powers that be, through FSB, making us feel more connected and resilient.

Couldn't run my business without the support of the FSB, their expert advice and guidance during covid-19 has been outstanding.

Early Days as a new member of the FSB...but so far they have been really helpful. Below is the email I sent following a 'virtual' networking event. I have also put my situation forward re lack of any support from HM Govt as a Owner/Director managed business so I will see what pressure the FSB can exert.

Hi Vanessa,

Thanks for this and I will give it a look…nice to meet up with so many new faces yesterday. So far, the FSB, has been very helpful and supportive. Probably the most useful professional body I have invested in so far.

See you virtually again soon?

Regards and Stay Safe,

Nick at Me the Leader

My company has been a member of the FSB for over 20 years. I contacted them 9 days ago to get them to put more pressure on the banks because of the delay in responding to small business owners needing help under the CBILS scheme. The FSB forwarded my email, with my permission, to the Bank concerned. In less than 24 hours I had received an email from the Bank with the next form that they wanted filled in. 48 hours later I had a phone call from the top person dealing with these loans, then more phone calls for credit checks etc etc. Yesterday I got verbal confirmation of a successful loan application. The bank was VERY well aware of the involvement of the FSB and that is why I achieved a fast resolution to my application. Brilliant service. Delighted.

I would like to see the FSB be a lot more ready to stand up for small business in a political way. It should hold the government to account and be ready to criticise.

I regard my membership as a Union for the self employed and small businesses, there to advise and protect its members from the shifting sands of government policy, legal requirements, financial uncertainty , global influences and local markets. Somebody is watching my back and putting my point of view over.

I've only been a member for a year and this year have made a commitment to myself to get more involved and it's only for this reason I've not given five stars. As a media professional, I find it tricky to understand why the FSB isn't more proactive in 'selling' itself to local businesses. I now have a better understanding of the organisation's PR strategy so that makes more sense. I welcomed my one to one at the end of my first year which opened my eyes to what I was missing.

The FSB is the only organisation in the UK that represents and supports small businesses at affordable subscription prices.
They strive to be continually aware of compliance and complex issues that face small businesses, and champion their causes with robust and consistent lobbying and representations with all Government departments. They provide a range of practical benefits to small businesses, some included within the membership prices with special rates negotiated for extended services. We have been members for more than a decade, and have received support from them on employment law issues, legal issues, cyber insurance, jury service compensation, office and PI and cyber insurances and benefitted from extensive templates for legal, HR, Health & Safety policies, contracts and other helpful documents that most small businesses need for the most up to date compliance legislation.

I need to know that as a very small business we have a large organisation with a high level representative respected voice in the media and political arena.

Long standing member. Excellent regular communication from FSB re policy, other members, new initiatives etc. The most valuable service for me is the legal advice. I've used it on many occasions relating to employment law and, on one occasion, to counter a serious allegation against me from one of my employees. A very serious situation but the advice I received was comprehensive and reliable.

Although I haven't used the many tools, support & services (apart from Business Insurance) available for businesses from the FSB, I know that they are there when needed.
Knowing that they are supporting SME's in the wider political forum is invaluable.

I think FSB does a stunning job for small businesses and everyone should be a member.

I've been a member for five years now. I find great value for insurance, etc, and incredibly useful services like debt collection letters and responsive help lines for tax, legal issues, etc. included for an amazingly low subscription.
I recommend the FSB to all my business contacts.

Joined the FSB 11 years ago and found them invaluable as I went through the process of starting up my own company. Laws, rules and regulations change so often when you employ people, and having the FSB Legal team on hand is like having a your own HR department.
They offer lots of networking opportunities, online document templates, policy updates and lots more that I could not do without.
All for an annual subscription, excellent value for money and a wonderful resource to have.

Used to like it more when we had proper regional and local committees feeding back.

I only joined to get 'free' Cooperative business banking, well it costs the annual membership fee, but it's still cheaper than paying for a business banking account direct. Other than that I don't find any benefit to me or my business. I tried their insurance for quotes but they were uncompetitive on both vehicle and public liability, nor could they offer professional indemnity. I also tried the legal helpline once but did not gain any knowledge I didn't already have. If you want to network, you might get some extra benefit.
