Based on data from car parks, overall visits to Epsom in December were up 2.5% compared to December 2011, making December 2012 the busiest month for visitors to the town centre since December 2004.
Evidence also suggests that providing free parking in the Council managed car parks on the five Sunday’s preceding Christmas also drew a substantial number of visitors into Epsom town centre, with one car park registering a 32% increase in visitors over the equivalent Sunday in 2011.
Councillor Jean Smith, Chairman of the Environment committee said “I’m very pleased the Council was able to assist our local retailers in this way and that so many visitors took advantage of the free parking”.
