A short service was held at the Town Hall led by the Mayor of Epsom & Ewell, Councillor Peter O’Donovan, and the Mayor's chaplain, Janet Sherbourne. The councillors and town hall staff joined people across the UK in a minute’s silence at noon.
Earlier in the morning the Mayor visited the yellow ribbons that have put up in locations within the borough to mark the day.
This evening the Clock Tower will be lit up in yellow.
The Mayor said “Let's take time to connect, supporting the millions of people who are grieving, and remembering the family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues we've lost during the pandemic.
“While life is beginning to return to normal for some people, several million people are still living with the trauma of loss, and not being able to grieve properly.
“The world, however, keeps on changing, and just as the virus began to recede, a new crisis emerges elsewhere. The people of Ukraine are now fighting a different battle – and we will reflect on them too.
“Let's make the legacy of the pandemic years one of compassion, love and active support for those who grieve, both now, and in the years to come.”
