Ewell Village Bowling Club
Many of us think of lawn bowling as an older persons pastime – well there are many senior members but bowling is a sport which can be enjoyed by all regardless of age or ability or sex. If you watch the various competitions shown on the TV – you will see a varying range of ages taking part.
Just recently Katheine Rednall became Ladies World Champion at the ripe old age of 16 – and many clubs are looking to encourage younger players.
It is quick to learn – it allows you to develop your individual skill – it keeps you fit – relatively inexpensive to play - and yes – it can be competitive!
And another very important thing – it is very sociable – a great opportunity to meet new people.
We have all passed lawn bowls grounds and seen the players decked out in their whites – but have you ever stopped and watched them play? Try it some time – it is very interesting to watch as the players discuss tactics – see their individual styles – see the intense concentration as they prepare for their shot – and notice the comeraderie amongst them.
Most clubs partake in league matches – but playing in these is not compulsory.
Ewell Village Bowling Club – is a classic English club. It was established in 2011 when Ewell Bowling Club and Ewell Ladies Bowling Club joined – but their history goes back much further – back to the 1930’s – so that’s nearly 80 years of bowling in Ewell.
They are actively encouraging younger players by launching a training programme for the bouys at Glyn School. Over a six week period they will be coaching 12 boys, taking them through the basics, the laws, the etiquette and the finer points of competitive play.
If you would like to try your hand at bowling then give them a call OR
