The Chief Executive of Epsom, St Helier and Sutton hospitals is urging people to jump on their bikes.
Matthew Hopkins joined thousands of other cyclists across the country this week in celebration of National Bike Week.
A keen cyclist, Mr Hopkins rides to his office most days for his home in New Malden, peddling nearly 1,000 miles in the past year.
He said: "As well as a being great for the environment, cycling is a fantastic way of getting fit. It is also great for the pocket as it’s a lot cheaper than travelling by car, bus or train.
"A lot of our staff, volunteers, patients and their visitors cycle to our hospitals. However, I am keen to encourage more people to join me.
"We have invested a lot of money over the years on new cycle racks, showers for staff, cycling training and other incentives to help people make the move from car or public transport to bike."
** also with the news of the roadworks returning to the A217 – it might also be quicker!!
