A record crowd of 200,000 are expected for The Epsom Derby after the Queen chose the day to launch her Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Katherine Jenkins will sing the National Anthem when the Queen, arrives with other members of the royal family.
The Surrey racecourse will be given a “Best of British” makeover to launch the four-day jubilee festivities, with a Red Devils display and an exhibition of photographs of the Queen attending the Derby throughout her reign.
Known as the “Londoners’ day out”, Epsom is distinct from Ascot as an event for all classes. Now being run for the 233rd time, it draws thousands of visitors from the capital and home counties.
