Access

Alexandra Recreation Ground is situated in the southern half of the Borough about a quarter of a mile from Epsom town centre. The main entrance, with limited car parking, is situated off Alexandra Road opposite Bridle Road. There are disabled parking facilities next to the main pavilion, which are accessed via the entrance on Alexandra Road at the junction with Bridge Road.

The park is crossed by a designated cycle path and bridleway and there are a number of pedestrian entrances into the park - from Bridge Road, at its junction with Alexandra Road; from Norman Avenue; from Wallace Fields and from Windmill Lane.

Martial Arts Centre

Alexandra Recreation Ground is also home to a Martial Arts Centre, whose members can often be seen practising in the park grounds. The Centre is open seven days a week. For more information contact Ian Armstrong on 01372 725918 or go to the Nam Yang Pugilistic Society Website at www.namyang.co.uk.

History

Alexandra Recreation Ground is the oldest park in the Borough. It was purchased on 16 December 1898 for £3,197. If you have a question or would like more information relating to the history, please call Bourne Hall Museum on 020 8394 1734.

Volunteers and Community Groups

For park users who want to become more involved in the way the park is managed, local residents run the Friends of Alexandra Park Group. They have been responsible for conservation work in the park and many activities run in association with the Martial Arts Centre.  For more information concerning the Friends of Alexandra Park Group, please contact the Ranger Service on 01372 732000, or alternatively send an email. 

Wildlife

The park is home to a variety of wildlife including many different species of birds, foxes, and grey squirrels. Pipistrelle bats are also thought to frequent the park in the summer.

A local resident has also established an exciting collection of wild flowers, some chosen to attract butterflies, in the top area of the park, cleared especially for this purpose by the Friends of Alexandra Park Group.
