Founded in June 1979 as a charity, Epsom Medical Equipment Fund was established to relieve sickness and to protect and preserve the health of the general public by providing or assisting in the provision of facilities and equipment at Epsom Hospital which would not otherwise be provided by the local health authority.
Their aim is to raise money to purchase medical equipment which will help diagnose, investigate and treat patients and hopefully bring about a cure. They stand to help those members of the local community who may have a need to use the equipment purchased by the Fund.
Key milestones include the purchase of the first CT scanner for Epsom Hospital. Since then, Epsom Medical Equipment Fund has purchased equipment which has enabled new services to be set up to help the community Epsom Hospital serves.
Other achievements include the purchase of a £71,000 x-ray machine to replace the one that had broken down, the purchase of a Fibro Scan for investigating liver disease and two wrist traction devices which will help prevent the need for surgery to be carried out on broken wrists.
The highlight of 2012 was to be one of the Mayoral charities for Epsom and Ewell and being nominated Sainsbury's Kiln Lane, Epsom 'Charity of the Year'.
