Princess Alice Hospice has been caring for people Ashford for over 25 years, with over 340 patients from the area referred to the Hospice in the last year. At any one time up to 50 people from the area receive care and support from community nurses. The charity has had a visual presence in the town through a High street shop for 22 years.
The shop was opened by actress and star of Bread, Jean Boht. Four people, who remember that day and all of the achievements of the passing decades, are (from left to right) Vida Edwards, Daphne Leaders, Enid Friesen and Peggy Day. They were there on the day the store opened and are still dedicated and regular volunteers in the shop - over two decades later.
The four ladies along with numerous other long standing volunteers and the retail team welcomed Deputy Mayor of Spelthorne, Councillor Robin William Sider, to cut the ribbon at the opening, alongside community fundraiser Emily Cheshire and community Princess Alice Nurse for the area Emma Collard.
Cllr Sider was joined by Deputy Mayoress, Mrs. Jeanette Sider and Cllr Chris Frazer. Mrs Sider wasted no time in browsing the shop and made a purchase of a beautiful purple hat. The shop has high quality clothing, accessories, homewares, books, DVDs, cds and collectibles.
The charity is able to collect large items of saleable furniture and can arrange house clearances, so if you have any items that you want to donate to the Weybridge store or the specialist Furniture Stores in Epsom and Kingston, please call the Hospice’s dedicated furniture line on 020 8547 2710 to discuss or arrange collection of saleable items.
