On Tuesday 12 June, volunteers and staff at Princess Alice Hospice were joined by Alice Bear mascot as they wore PJs to work to launch the charity’s Pyjama Midnight Walk that is taking place later this summer.
The theme continued throughout the day with retail staff and volunteers at the Kingston, Twickenham, Teddington and Richmond shops getting in on the action and helping to promote this wonderful event to their visiting customers.
This year Princess Alice Hospice’s 5th annual Midnight Walk on Saturday 8 September will have a Pyjama theme, the reason being all money generated from the event will go towards funding the new ‘8 to 8’ home nursing service, that sees nurses and senior healthcare assistants providing vital support in patients’ homes through the night, enabling carers to get a much needed and well deserved night’s sleep.
Previous walks have generated over £250,000 for the Hospice and this year the team is hoping for a big boost to this new nursing service, the Mayor of Elmbridge Janet Turner has already pledged her support during her mayoral fundraising year to the service.
There is the option to complete either an 8 or 12 mile sponsored walk that will cross the bridges over the Thames in Richmond, Kingston and Teddington. Previous events have seen hundreds don fancy dress to support their local hospice, and every step taken makes a difference to patients and their loved ones.
Entry for the event is £12, with an early bird offer of £8 if participants register by 30 June. The first 400 to sign up will receive a free Wee Willie Winkie hat to get their fancy dress of to a great start.
