Exeter-based chartered accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards is challenging businesses across Exeter and Devon to take part in its 15th annual Really Big Quiz. Last year, the quiz raised over £7,600 for the Lord Mayor’s charity and plans are well underway to make this year’s event bigger and better, all in the name of charity.
Taking place at the Corn Exchange on Wednesday 9 May from 6.00pm, the annual Really Big Quiz brings together Exeter’s brainiest businesses and teams of eggheads to battle it out for the prestigious title. The event also raises vital funds for the Lord Mayor’s nominated charity Age UK Exeter, which aims to improve later life for everyone in Exeter by providing life enhancing services and vital support.
As in previous years, many local firms will be returning to pit their wits against rivals from the business community. A total of 72 teams have already signed up leaving just 2 spaces for this fun-filled annual event.
All proceeds from the quiz, auction and raffle will be donated to Age UK Exeter. It is hoped that this year’s event will surpass the all-time record of £8,141 raised in 2015, adding to £67,997 raised for the Mayor’s charity over the past fourteen years.
So far, auction lots and prizes include: a Private Eye Cartoon by Tony Husband; an abstract piece of art by contemporary expressionist George Porter; two tickets to Age UK Exeter’s black tie dinner; a signed Exeter Chiefs shirt, two Exeter Chiefs cup game tickets, a round of golf for four at Woodbury Park; tickets to World of Country Life, Paignton Zoo vouchers, tickets to We the Curious science centre in Bristol; vouchers to Woodlands Family Theme Park. Many more items have been kindly donated and further generous items are welcome.
The winners of the quiz will receive the Really Big Quiz trophy and champagne; there are also prizes for second and third places. Last year 72 teams competed in the event.
Once again, the redoubtable raconteur, James Morrish from Kivells, will be on hand to auction off items, announce the winners of the raffle, encourage guests to play the ever-popular game of heads and tails and provide plenty of laughs along the way.
John Coombs, partner at Simpkins Edwards, commented: “The Really Big Quiz is a hugely entertaining evening that raises thousands of pounds for good causes. It puts the very best brains in Exeter to the test and stands out as a highlight in the business calendar. With just the last few tables available, we’d advise businesses to book soon to avoid disappointment.”
Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Lesley Robson, commented: “Thanks to Simpkins Edwards and the generosity of many local businesses, we have a fantastic list of items to be auctioned and won at The Really Big Quiz. We hope that money raised on the night, combined with tickets sold for the event, will swell the amount raised for the Lord Mayor’s charity, Age UK Exeter, to record levels.”
