The public are reminded that the Fire Brigades Union has announced a further strike date in a dispute with the Government over pension reforms tonight (24 December) 19:00hrs 12:00 midnight. The issue continues to remain a matter between the Fire Brigades Union and Government. It is important that the public recognises the strike will have an impact on our normal arrangements during the periods of dispute. The Service has substantial contingency plans in place to ensure that we will continue to respond to emergency incidents. However, our capability to respond quickly may be reduced during the period of strike. The Service is still receiving calls to motorists stuck in floodwater this evening. It is particularly important that people do not put themselves or others at risk during the period of strike. Area Manager Phil Martin said: "People must ask themselves, is it worth gambling with your car and maybe even your life to take the shortest route home rather than take a detour on a safer journey."
