RAMM is one of only six museums to be shortlisted for this year's award – the biggest museum award in Britain.
The competition has been tough with a record-breaking 800 nominations this year. The six finalists have been chosen by a panel of experts. Visitors, staff, volunteers and city councillors all contributed to RAMM’s nomination. Now it’s up to a ‘mystery shopper’ family to road-test RAMM and judge whether it should be the overall winner.
RAMM supports family visiting through weekend and holiday activities, art schools, projects, partnerships, creative play, events, trails, games and interactives, all geared at helping families explore and enjoy RAMM together.
Cllr Rosie Denham, Lead Councillor for Economy and Culture, said: "I’m delighted that RAMM’s family friendliness has been recognised in this way – a tribute to the whole team. The front-of-house staff provide a warm welcome and keep the place sparkling clean and safe for little visitors. Other staff and volunteers organise and run events, and have filled the galleries with marvellous collections to inspire families. RAMM’s activities help families to explore the collections together, learn new things and express themselves creatively."
This is the third time that RAMM has entered the competition and been shortlisted among the best six museums.
Dea Birkett, Director of Kids in Museums, said: “The bar for being in the top six most family friendly museums in Britain rises every year. With over 800 nominations for the 2015, the imagination and innovation these six shortlisted museums have shown is remarkable.
“They have not only welcomed families, but gone to extraordinary steps to make their visit live on long after they have left the museum. Excellent museums like these can make a huge difference to families, offering opportunities amongst real things that are unique and special."
The winner of the Award will be announced on Thursday 24 September 2015 at a ceremony at the Telegraph newspaper.
