Five Phyllis Tuckwell nurses - Diane Borszcz, Emma DeGiovanni, Lorraine Arthur, Mair Fry and Andrea Adams - along with colleagues Rajina Murdock and Linda Jones all took to the skies. Also taking part was local video production professional Jack Taylor, who recently helped the charity to produce a video challenging the misconceptions of Hospice Care, and showing the variety of care and support which it offers, not only to patients, but to their families and carers as well.
“The skydiving was brilliant, quite simply brilliant,” said Jack. “The atmosphere was super, the people were lovely, and the weather was perfect. I couldn’t have asked for a better day.”
Joining them were Danny Hazel, Ian Edwards, Sara Hindry, Carla Ramage, Philip Loveland, Joanne Bradshaw, Emily Probert, Ellie Fowler and Rosanna Ashford – along with an 80-year old relative of Neville Chamberlain, who is also called Neville Chamberlain and who came along with his 34 supporters!
The jump was organised and run by the Army Parachute Association, and took place at the Airfield Camp at Netheravon, in Wiltshire. Many of those who took part did so to raise money in memory of a loved one who had been cared for by the Hospice Care charity, which support over 250 patients and relatives every day.
“We would like to thank all those who took part in the skydive, which raised an incredible £12,000, with more money still coming in,” said Phyllis Tuckwell’s Events Fundraiser Fiona Chapman. “We only receive 20% of our funding from the NHS/Government, so we need to raise over £15,000 a day to be able to provide all of our services, and we rely heavily on the help of our supporters to achieve this.”
If you like the sound of drifting down to earth on the end of a parachute, then why not sign up for a skydive yourself - and support your local Hospice Care charity at the same time? Phyllis Tuckwell is holding another Skydive Day this year – on Friday 25th September. All you need to do is pay a £50 registration fee and raise a minimum of £450 sponsorship. And then relax and enjoy the view!!
