World Hospice and Palliative Care Day supports hospice and palliative care around the world. It is celebrated on the second Saturday of October every year by approximately 70 countries, with activities including campaigns to raise public awareness, advocacy with policy makers and fundraising events.
The day is for anyone and everyone who cares about or is involved in hospice and palliative care.
To mark this annual event, Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice are inviting everyone to join the Hospice to Hospice run from Phyllis Tuckwell to Shooting Star CHASE, on Saturday 12 October. Suitable for runners of all abilities, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery along the10.5 mile route, which will follow the North Downs Way from Farnham to Guildford.
Entry fee is just £10 and all funds raised will go Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham and Shooting Star Chase in Guildford.
Many people in Farnham have benefited from the wonderful services provided by Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. It is the only adult hospice caring for terminally ill people and their families across the whole of West Surrey and part of North East Hampshire. They support over 140 patients and carers every day.
When a cure is not possible, hospice care can offer a more dignified and comfortable alternative to spending time in the impersonal and noisy environment of a hospital. Phyllis Tuckwell care is provided at its hospice and in the community, offering support, helping manage pain and improving the quality of life for both patients and their loved ones.
Shooting Star CHASE is another superb local charity. The children's hospice cares for local families with a child or teenager with a life-limiting condition, aiming to make every day count. Sharing the good times and helping them through the tough times with practical nursing and emotional support, the hospice is invaluable to these families.
