Catherine Sykes is resident vocalist with the Glenn Miller Orchestra UK, and is widely regarded as one of the best big band vocalists in the UK. She has guested with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, Len Philips Big Band, Tony Jacobs' Tuxedo Jazz Orchestra and played with many of the country's finest jazz musicians.
Hailing from Yorkshire, Catherine studied her craft at Leeds College of Music before moving to London. Catherine's singing is heartfelt, engaging and beautiful and she is equally at home in front of a big band or, like tonight, in the more intimate setting of a Quintet.
Tonight Catherine celebrates one of America’s most beloved artists - Peggy Lee - the trailblazing singer who co-wrote her signature song “Fever”. From her start with the Benny Goodman Orchestra in the 1940's, Peggy Lee dominated the music world. Her hits included "It's a Good Day", "The Folks Who Live On The Hill", "Is That All There Is", "Manana" and the score to the Walt Disney movie "The Lady and The Tramp."
"The first time I heard Catherine sing I was completely blown away and immediately offered to write a song for her. Her voice is effortless but magical. It is graceful but passionate. It is beautiful." Nicky Campbell - presenter, journalist, writer, composer.
"Catherine Sykes is an exceptional singer of rare personality and intensity who has a voice to die for. Her vocal range is astonishing… " David Scott – Blues Matters magazine
