Runners in the Fleet Half Marathon are being encouraged to support local charity, The Matthew Elvidge Trust.

The Trust is also looking for local companies to provide sponsorship and encouraging employees to run in support of the charity.

The Matthew Elvidge Trust raises funds and campaigns to raise awareness and provide support for people experiencing anxiety and depression, both locally and nationally.

Some key facts:

  • Suicide remains the most common cause of death in men under the age of 35.
  • One in four people will experience some kind of mental health problem each year, predominantly anxiety and depression.
  • One in 10 children has a mental health problem at any one time.

Over the last few years over 400 runners have supported the Matthew Elvidge Trust in the Fleet Half Marathon and this year they are looking to get this figure to 500.

How you can get involved:

  • Select the Matthew Elvidge Trust as your nominated charity when you submit your Fleet Half Marathon entry.
  • Get together in a team, either with friends or work colleagues.
  • Contact The Trust to let them know you are supporting them.
  • Get in touch about sponsorship opportunities.

The Matthew Elvidge Trust was founded in 2010 by Hamish Elvidge after his son, Matthew, took his own life in 2009 after a short period of anxiety and depression. The trust aims to tackle depression in young people.
