Managing Partners and Senior Partners can make improvements to their firm's marketing if they considered some of the common pitfalls made by other firms:

  • Invest what you can afford and stress that marketing is an investment in the firm's future.
  • Get departments to think ahead and bid for their portion of the budget.
  • Understand the marketing two principles of Product/Service and Market. What do you want to say and who do you want to say it to?
  • There's no marketing silver bullet. A broad base of activity is needed without becoming too haphazard.
  • Get to know the business influencers' in your area.
  • Own a marketing event.
  • Understand the principles of how advertising works.
  • Empower your junior teams to network.
  • Be realistic about social media.
  • Invest in your website and search engine optimisation.
  • Embrace new ideas even if you might not fully understand them.
