I was lucky enough to be invited to a tour of the new Hart Leisure Centre in Fleet earlier this year when the building was starting to take shape and it has been enjoyable to watch the works progressing over the months.
In July 2016 there was a 'topping out' ceremony to celebrate the completion of the highest point of the building work and construction has now started on the interior.
The Leisure Centre is due to be completed in Spring 2017 and will include three swimming pools, a 120 station gym, male and female sauna and steam cabins climbing wall, coffee shop, multiple sports pitches and a sports hall. The adjacent country park will also be completed in 2017.
Willmot Dixon who are building the site have a commitment to ensure the local economy benefits from construction work, with a target that 85% of suppliers are SME businesses, 75% of the construction contract value is delivered by SMEs and 75% of local labour is sourced within 40 miles of the site. The project is also set to provide 88 work experience placements for 15-17 years olds from the local area and the same number to those over 18, as well as facilitating 44 NVQs.
The new Leisure Centre is a £23m project and will be managed by Everyone Active for Hart District Council.
