Can you take the heat? Phyllis Tuckwell will be holding its first ever Firewalk on Sunday 23rd October, at the Elvetham Hotel in Hartley Wintney, and is looking for plucky participants to take on the challenge!
The Firewalk will be run by Time4Change (T4C), a training and events organisation which draws upon motivational psychology, neuro-linguistic programming and the martial arts to tap into our inner resources of fearlessness and self-belief. Before the walk, you will attend a training seminar run by T4C instructor Cliff Mann, who has safely guided thousands of people over hot coals and today is recognised as the most experienced firewalking instructor in the UK and Europe. This training is as important as the Firewalk itself, and the skills and attitudes you will learn in the seminar will stay with you for life.
After the seminar, you will be taken outside to walk across the fire lane, which will be made up of a combination of red-hot pine, ash and oak embers. The lane will be 15-20ft long and 2-3ft wide, with a core temperature of 400-600°F. A debrief and certificate presentation will follow the walk, after which you will be free to celebrate your achievement at the hotel bar!
The money raised through this event will help fund the supportive and end of life care which Phyllis Tuckwell provides for patients and families living with a terminal illness, such as cancer, in West Surrey and North East Hampshire.
Every day it supports over 250 patients, relatives and carers - in their own homes, at the Hospice in Farnham and at the Beacon Centre in Guildford – offering medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support. However, as the NHS/Government only covers 20% of its costs, it has to raise over £20,000 a day to do this.
“The Firewalk is a new event for us and we are very excited about it,” said Fiona Chapman, Events Fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell. “It really will push participants to their limits, helping them find their inner strength and self-belief. You will need to arrive at the Elvetham Hotel at 2.30pm to sign in, and the seminar will start at 3pm. At 5pm, participants will be taken outside for the Firewalk.
