Grantham College student Remany Musson has been awarded a £1,000 scholarship from the University of Lincoln, at a ceremony held on December 5. Former Walton Girls’ student Remany, 16, is one of 45 students across Lincolnshire to be awarded the University’s new Access Scholarship. These scholarships are awarded to students the University believe have the potential and determination to succeed at university, but may not have the opportunity without financial help. The award is intended to support the students before they reach university level, and the University hopes that this will allow them to excel in their current studies.
University Vice Chancellor Professor Mary Stuart said: "At the University of Lincoln we believe anyone with the potential and determination to study at university should be able to do so, regardless of their financial circumstances. We are committed to supporting social mobility because we see first-hand how Higher Education can transform people’s lives and benefit society as whole.
"At our graduation ceremonies, we are reminded of the remarkable journeys many students go through to achieve their goals. We hope these scholarships will encourage talented young people of all backgrounds to see that Higher Education is not just the preserve of the privileged."
Remany started at the College in September of this year, and is currently studying A Levels in Fine Art, Photography and Media Studies. Her tutors believe she has great potential and is excelling at her chosen subjects. Remany is not certain what she would like to study at university, but is interested in Photography and Journalism courses. Remany was accompanied at the ceremony by Grantham College A Level Personal Tutor Wendy Redmond, who said: “Remany is very focused and determined to succeed in her studies, and has already produced several pieces of very creative and insightful work for her portfolios. She is a great ambassador for the College and has all the attributes to succeed in whatever she sets out to accomplish.”
Grantham College hopes to continue this partnership with the University of Lincoln by nominating more students in the coming years.
