Having battled in my mini through the blizzards (flurries of snow!) I was met by Leo who gave me a guided tour of this stunning bed and breakfast near Grantham. Leo took this photograph of The Manor on the day I went - very evocative I thought.
The Manor is a beautifully restored Grade II Jacobean building steeped in history, with the original manor on this site recorded in the Doomsday Book. The current Manor dates back to 1450; evidence of cellars, attics, priest holes and all the human history that suggests, is everywhere.
Now a grand family home the fascinating Garth Vincent and his sons offer deluxe accommodation with a warmth, comfort and quality that welcomes guests throughout their stay. Unwind at the end of the day in the stunning Drawing room and soak up the country while you relax in their beautiful garden (when the weather permits obviously). The Guardian has rhapsodised about The Manor at Allington and the many many testimonials reveal everything you need to know if you are looking for somewhere to stay near Newark.
The Best of Grantham welcomes Allington Manor as a member and as I had an hour by the log fire ensconsed in the most comfortable of sofas and good coffee I am a convert. Also Garth who specialises in antique arms and armour was at my old school Westonbirt in Gloucestershire recently so it was meant to be!
