Market Day on a beautiful spring morning in Grantham

An early morning trip to Grantham gave me the opportunity to watch the market unfold.

The vitality and viability of this ancient market town on this beautiful spring morning moved me to take some photos which don't do justice to the colours and sparkle.

Grantham is believed to have originated as a 6th century Saxon settlement, with the name supposedly derived from 'the settlement on the gravel'. History credits Grantham as being the place where Cromwell first had success against the Royalists. Cromwell is said to have lodged in Great Gonerby to the north of the town before launching his attack.

Grantham is packed with history and is an important rural 'city.' Fellows has a wonderful history timeline along the side of the Cafe (a future blog) - literally thousands of years of historical events. If you haven't noticed take a look; it's a fabulous picturedrome
