My daughter cannot wait to get down to the farm just outside of Grantham to see these babies.
Grethe told me,
‘A week ago our first little calf (a boy) was born in the morning, later the same day our second calf – this time a blond little girl – was born.’
The birth of a calf is known as calving. Something I learnt today - a calf that has lost its mother is an orphan calf, also known as a poddy or poddy-calf. Fortunately these calves are not orphans, so congrats to their tired mum.
And how nice for all Grethe’s B&B guests. David Klemmensen who stayed at Thorn Farm Accommodation would have loved to have seen these calves. He told thebestofgrantham that he used to run in the forest around the farm when he stayed there and on the last evening they had a picnic by the pond. I am sure these baby cows would have completed the idyllic setting!
