We stayed at this Hotel during our first trip to Guernsey for four nights and were not disappointed. We had a Seaview room with balcony, which was a comfortable size, very clean and looked like the bathroom was fairly new.

The hotel amenities were very good and the choice for breakfast was outstanding in quality, presentation and taste.

Nice bar with good staff.

All the staff were really helpful and welcoming.

Minor points, to the management: We did not receive a turn-down service, even though it is clearly mentioned, and I also put my shoes out one night to be polished as was advertised but they were still there in the morning.

This did not spoil our stay, but you should not promise what you cannot deliver.

What a wonderful experience. The staff are outstanding, genuine and wonderfully efficient. Lovely location next to a beautiful park. When I got to my room there was a cosy bed for my dog and a box of brilliant treats for her. Breakfast is superb and served in a glorious sunroom.

Wow, what a brilliantly friendly team they have here. We were over from Cornwall as part of the IoD Guernsey conference, and we were lucky enough to be put up here. The staff were probably the friendliest and most helpful anyone could be. Genuine, engaging alongside a great location for us to get to the conference alongside exploring. Thanks so much I will be back.

Situated about a 15 minute walk, uphill, from the resort "front",this hotel seemed to be stuck in the middle of the 1930/40's with its decor and demeanor!
Our room was fine, yet it seemed "dated"with a fabric wallpaper, mirrored drawers on furniture, just seemed as if we were on a film set,but that was our feeling!Bathroom was large and well equipped.
Must mention that service and cleaning was good, although you never knew at what time of day you would get seen to,one day whilst at breakfast, the next late afternoon, then lunchtime the day after that!
The hotel boasts an enclosed private swimming pool(towels provided) sun loungers and several terraces.
Reception staff were brilliant, especially Bellen and Beth, whatever you needed,24 hrs a day, just ring down whether it was just for a jug of fresh milk for a cup of tea, book a taxi or another pillow
Meals in the restaurant, well breakfast was brilliant, again,we were on the bed and breakfast option(don't do half board) during our stay, choices were numerous, cold things like cereals, fruit, croissants, cold meats and juices, you just helped yourself, cooked breakfasts, just tell your server what you wanted, bacon, sausages, hash browns, black pudding, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms and however you wanted an egg, think you'll get the picture!
Different story at dinner,we didn't think the choices were that numerous, plus we thought the prices a little bit too expensive for the options,we,my wife and I had basically what was burger and chips one evening, with "trimmings",2 beers for me,1 for my wife sixty odd pounds(a double figure percentage "tip"is added to your bill automatically! Went out to eat the rest of week!

Lovely food, ambience and staff. Would score it a 10:10, would definitely recommend visiting for a special occasion. The home made scones with jam and clotted cream were a favourite as well as the vast selection of teas.

The hotel room was fine with a nice bathroom and shower. All of the staff were excellent and the reception staff and restaurant manager,Bobby, were attentive and always smiling couldn’t have wished for better service.
The food menu was a bit challenging as we don’t do fish but the portions were ,if anything, too big for old codgers like us and the breakfast was excellent.
Only downside was the fact it is uphill from St Peter Port and after a day trekking around it was a struggle climbing back up to the hotel for us so we took a taxi a couple of times which was convenient and relatively inexpensive.
Overall this is a great hotel with great staff but if you have mobility issues you will need to use taxis.

a huge thank to Paul, we spent the whole week in the bar and never had to even ask, he just knew our drinks order, certainly the out standing employee at the duke, breakfast very good, dinner average depending on who working got the feeling the Bobby was go but was trying to hard, not the first time I stayed at an RCH hotel so knew what to expect our experience and expectations very meet at the bear minimum, and it a shame that I have to focus on one individual at the end of the day the truth is the truth our last member is Paul and talking to some members of staff they simply don’t value him and don’t care really they opening say his just a bartender, the young lady Susan was poor can’t imagine the difference between her and Paul, or Senzo, the hotel is ok the sad jazz music needs to be looked at, obviously as most of the guests are of a certain age but still you have to grow and attract different people, the only thing I’ll add is Paul has to be your employee of the year otherwise is wrong and somewhat discrimination if you do see what he brings to the company or just to the island, if you as a RCH are about progression and development of employees keep Paul, just the little things that make a difference

We stayed here recently for 5 nights and had had a pleasant stay. The good points are the staff are extremely friendly, helpful and efficient. The breakfast choice and standard were also good. We dined one evening which was ok and busy but for the cost of food found food to be mediocre. We dined out the other 4 nights. We used the pool area one day for a couple of hours which was nice. The hotel isn’t very big and whilst there were several work conferences going on so was very limited space to relax. Our room was well set out and comfy bed but looking tired and in need of updating especially the bathroom. We like walking and didn’t mind the walk into town an uphill back but could see it being a problem for some.
The taxi we ordered at reception for return to airport was far more expensive than when we arrived and felt ripped off. The Irish driver who seems to know the staff well didn’t put his meter on and just plucked a price out of the air. I think the hotel should review who they use for guests or at least arrange a pre arranged cost like other hotels do.

Chose this as it is it is a Red Carnation hotel and we are familiar with Milestones in London. Swift and friendly check in for our five nights here. Interesting decor, quite quirky. Ideally located away from the town. A quick walk down takes you to the harbour. Walk back is fine and not that steep a hill, depends on what you are used to I guess.
Room well furnished, decent hospitality tray and bottled water. Unfortunately 402 is opposite the kitchen extraction "chimney" so the sound pervades the room early morning from about 6am. Soundproofing not great as you do hear people walking past room and doors closing.
All clean. Bed very comfortable with monogrammed linen. Bathroom very small and shower not commensurate with status of the hotel. Quality shower/bathing products.
Breakfast is good generally albeit for a hotel in this group the standard should be higher and at times things were definitely lacking. Loved the Kippers and the healthy juices which you need to order separately. Portions are large though.
Dinner was delicious. The waiting team headed by Nicolas and Sharone (who are both very professional, adept and friendly) need a little more training in some aspects albeit all are courteous.
Pool was often covered in leaves: I know leaves fall in the wind even in summer, but staff should have been on top of this. It was off putting so I didn't use. I never saw anyone attending to this but perhaps they did.

This was my second stay here, and even if my first stay was fantastic, they made the next one evnen better.Being greeted as an old friend, looked after as a family member. The room are fabulous, the food in the restaurant the highest quality, lovely pool, and great location. But the best ting about the hotel is the staff. Nelly at the front desk, Bobby restaurant manager, Fazia and Brightness are just some of the best hotel professionals I ever have meet. And I can't wait to see them again.

Great hotel, quirky and well decorated. Super friendly staff who literally do anything for you. The breakfast was lovely and again although they have you a menu we regularly asked for changes.

Although location is at the top of a hill, the walk into St. Peter Port is 5 mins if that and the walk back wasn’t too bad either.

Just a really lovely stay, would recommend.

We had an excellent room with excellent amenities. No request was an issue. The food is good and served by pleasant staff. In particular we felt that Faizer and Bradley were really good. Belen on reception was also particularly obliging. The hotel is a bit away from the town centre but very close to public parks and the excellent Candy gardens

We wanted a special place to celebrate a significant birthday, and, on the whole the DOR rewarded us with a good decision. The staff were excellent throughout and seemed to be a good working team. I was a bit concerned about the food, from previous guests' reviews, but the breakfast was tasty and very well presented. The dinner was very good, but I found the wine list a little uninspiring. Our room was comfortable and quirky, but I was left with the feeling that it didn't quite deliver the level of luxury which the price suggested.

Have just spent four nights in this charming hotel where we received the warmest possible welcome from the whole team. Every morning started with a delicious cooked breakfast in the conservatory or on the terrace before exploring beautiful Guernsey, returning to a spotless room with a great view of the shipping in the harbour. On our final evening taxi driver Gareth took us to the airport for our 6pm flight to Gatwick. Shortly after takeoff the plane was struck by lightning and had to turn back. After an anxious two hours wait the plane was declared unfit. Sadly the airline, Aurigny, after re-booking flights for the following day, declined to offer any help or advice with emergency transport and accommodation. In desperation we rang Gareth. Despite being off duty he offered, without hesitation, to abandon his dinner and rescue us from the airport, as there were no taxis or buses. He also called the hotel to confirm there was a room available. Back at the hotel Nelly greeted us like old friends and much valued guests. Gareth meanwhile returned to the airport to help other stranded passengers. At 530am he picked us up for our early morning flight. We simply can't commend Gareth and the hotel team enough. It's disappointing their support was not matched by Aurigny.

When you pull up the hotel looks good the reception also looks good and the reception staff are very help full. Room was clean and a good size. Dining room for breakfast is good but on the second morning I ordered my cooked breakfast and waited 30 minutes and had to ask again, it seemed that the chef had forgot to cook it and when I did get my breakfast, 2 minutes after asking it was very dry so the food had obviously been standing for a bit. The next day asked for some toast and I’m still waiting!! The gentle walk to the port is that but please be aware that the work back is going up hill! If you want to use the gym it’s at the sister hotel but it costs £10 each time you use it!! So maybe the hotel isn’t as good as it thinks it is!!

The hotel is very nice. Parking is not great. Barman was good for us. Breakfast was very nice. Dinner was not great. Rather bland and expensive. Rooms done nicely but there is a blue light in the bathroom we couldn’t turn off.
Probably would return and eat out

We had a terrific Wimbledon themes afternoon tea recently as part of my husbands birthday celebrations. I’m a big fan of afternoon tea and I think this is one of the best I have ever had. Every single item was beautifully prepare. The food was fresh and tasty and light but fulfilling. I really can’t fault it. The service was friendly and courteous with staff who clearly want their customers to have a good experience. The weather was perfect so we were able to eat out on the terrace. Once they know preps it was a birthday celebration a little birthday cake appear too. I really can’t recommend this treat highly enough.

Overall an enjoyable stay but many improvements required. Restaurant staff - some of the staff service was slow and indicated. When my mum mentioned her scrambled eggs at breakfast had shell in them she got no apology, the waitress just took the plate away and didn’t offer to replace the food.
Generally no anticipation of customer need.
Restaurant chairs need rubber stoppers on the bottom of the feet as they are extremely noisy.
Sounding proofing in room 111 was terrible. I could hear the person in the room above me scraping the floor with their chairs at 3.00am four nights in a row.

Pool - strong smell of petrol when you are using the sunbed next to the wall to the right of the spiral staircase.
Lovely pool but water temperature should have been set a few degrees lower in anticipation of the very hot weather.

Overcharged by taxi driver for taxi to airport. Hotel reception could have warned us that rates are greater at weekends.

Reception were helpful in trying to source a facial.

Guernsey is a lovely island but very expensive. We found a lovely Italian restaurant in St Peter Port with very reasonable prices as hotel was very expensive to eat at every night.

Housekeeping- no turndown service in the bedrooms which was surprising for a 4 star hotel.

Saucers to the cups were dirty in my room and housekeeping stuff left their cleaning fluid and cloths in my room - sloppy service and lack of attention to detail.

I noticed some other reviewer mentioned the “Wilted Carnation” - would agree with that.

Maybe the owner of the group should come at stay as a mystery guest to see exactly what sort of service is being provided in the restaurant.

I have a background of working in hotels in London at 5 star level and this hotel was somewhat disappointing.

Upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted by Beth who was so upbeat, happy & knowledgeable of the area, she is a fantastic person to be on front desk as the 1st person we met left a great impression. We went to our room and were overawed...the size, the comfort, the little touches were just amazing. I went in the pool that evening & enjoyed lounging in the room.

Following morning we went to breakfast...again WOW...an amazing spread if every continental item you could require all set out beautifully, the staff were very attentive, happy, smart & professional, the food was to die for & we were spoilt for choice!! As we left restaurant/hotel we were wished a good day by all staff.
On arrival back last night again staff were lovely...it was Nellie on front desk this time, very pleased to see us & interested in our day, another swim was had & loved time in our room which was beautifully clean with every amenity we need (especially plug sockets by both beds which is great as we have CPAP machines).

Another Breakfast was again outstanding, all beautifully set out & staff wonderful.
On arrival back this afternoon Nellie & Emma greeted us & helped with all our queries re: luggage labels, taxis & Sark ferry...they were extremely helpful, lovely & very personable.
We had a lovely relaxed evening as we'd walked miles

This morning we were sad to be leaving & after another great breakfast with amazing service we were bid farewell by all staff.

Highly Recommend this hotel

Had a very good stay overall, room very decent and clean when I checked in wasn’t serviced properly, food over priced not value for money, I had the fish and chips one night horrible no flavour just a bone dry fish and the same with the curry the following night had to asked for pepper and Tabasco sauce just to have something to taste the rice was still hard couldn’t really be bothered to complain as I was only offered dessert but still expected to pay, not all bad in the restaurant, friends in guernsey spoke high of the bar the first night the lady introduced herself as the bar manager but didn’t know what a simple Singapore sling was and guy the following night (who did breakfast) knew and it was very good, so kinda saved my experience really good with all the new staff from South Africa, but my overall impression was a kitchen in a mess and a front of house been lead by true leadership. Paul was amazing with great smile and attitude, and everyone and everything was so effortless for him

Stayed here for a few days and had a brilliant experience.
The staff were fantastic, and the food excellent particularly the breakfasts although evening menu was repetitive
The room was just what we expected and was spotless but could do with some updating.
The only thing that lets the hotel down is its position at the top of a very steep hill.
This wouldn’t be so bad but there is no bus stop near by and taxis are a rare commodity on Guernsey
I think the hotel would be more popular if they ran a courtesy bus up and down to town a couple of times a day
Be warned if you are not very mobile stay down in town

We were extremely satisfied with our stay at the Duke of Richmond Hotel. Our room: very comfortable, attractive and cosy. Brekfast: varied and tasy food, very pleasant service. Reception: excellent welcome and highly efficient check-in. High degree of professionalism and great follow-up.
We'll gladly return to this well-run hotel!

From the booking to arriving and staying in this hotel the reception staff were amazing. A brilliant and efficient team always there to welcome you, answer questions and assist where needed. They always had a smile of their faces and generally interested in you and your day. Big thank you to them all!!
The room had everything we needed and was comfortable. I have to say we had no issues with noise and the air-con was great. The room was not always stocked up daily and one day our clean towels were just thrown on a chair. But otherwise ok. When we first checked into the room I did find the decor a little overwhelming but I did get used to it.
The pool area was small but nice. The pool was heated to a lovely temperature which was a lovely treat.
The big downside was breakfast. I must say that all the staff were lovely but the organisation was awful. On a few occasions I had finished my cooked breakfast before my drinks arrived. Twice to be told they were on the way but then told they had been forgotten. A couple of times my crumpets were solid and I could not even cut them. Food it very hit and miss. I could understand if they were short of staff but there were so many members of staff wandering around I really don’t understand why it takes so long to get drinks.

All in all a good stay but I do feel that I am leaving this place happy due to the amazing team on reception. Keep up the good work.
