On 9th July 2022 we took a taxi from Guernsey airport to the Duke of Richmond Hotel and the cost of this was £12.60. On the return journey on the 16th July the hotel booked a taxi to take us to the airport. The cost of this was £20 and could only be classified as profiteering. When requesting an hotel to order you a taxi find out the exact price before you leave or else you will likewise be stung. The price range online for the taxi service is £13 to £15.

The staff could not do enough for you but our room looked like nothing on the site and was tiny with strange sponge wallcovering in large green/blue stripes which was marked and depressing and not worth the money we spent , we ate in the resteraunt twice and the price was enormous , the Hotel in general needs a complete upgrade it is stuck in the 1970s and some decor and bad stains /paintwork in the main Hotel are really bad we had a large stain in our bathroom on the ceilng

We have travelled extensively but this of the best hotels we have ever been to. All the staff were brilliant. It is very well appointed and we had a lovely sea view and balcony. The reception area is amazing with a chess board floor. Just can’t fault it. It takes about 10 minutes to walk in to town. The way back up is quite a hike if you have any mobility issues but a cab is only a fiver. Very impressed, we will go back next year. Thanks to Belen on reception.

The restaurant lets down this hotel but not because of the staff, who are all friendly and helpful but because I believe they are inexperienced or badly trained or possibly both. My wife and I stayed for 9 days and only had 1 dinner in the restaurant which was very poor quality. Even breakfast could be hit or miss often with long waiting times for cooked dishes. We saw people walk out before their breakfast arrived. The porridge I ordered on one morning was inedible.
The staff on reception are excellent (especially ) which saves this hotel to some extent.
If you want to eat out (which you will) you need to be aware that it is some hike up the hill from the port back to the hotel or a £7 taxi ride. We spent about £100 on taxis while staying here.
The hotel management were conspicuous by their absence which tells you a lot. In a 9 day hotel stay I would expect to meet the Manager or Assistant Manager just in passing if for no other reason.
If the DoC cut out all the inconsistences that are evident and got the staff up to speed it has the making of a half decent hotel.

The hotel is about 25 minutes walk from the harbour and in a quiet location
The reception staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Everywhere was very clean
We had a harbour view room with lovely views
The restaurant was pleasant but a bit expensive compared to other places. Bar snacks looked to be over priced
Terrace seating area was lovely but sometimes tables weren’t cleared very quickly so seagulls sat on tables eating nuts and breaking glasses.
Parking could be a bit of a challenge as only 5 designated spaces for the hotel and street parking was a bit tight
We did however thoroughly enjoy our stay.

We received a warm welcome on our arrival by the smiling and efficient receptionist Nelly who quickly made us feel at home. Our room was clean with an excellent choice of tea and coffee and fluffy towels. The following days breakfasts were all excellent, fresh and flavourful. A lovely selection of fruits and pastries and extensive cooked items including the Full Guernsey breakfast all served attentively by Portia who couldn’t have been more delightful. We also dined in the Leopard restaurant for dinner where the sea bass and crushed new potatoes melted in the mouth. The hotel is close to the beautiful Candie gardens for a pre-dinner stroll and about ten minutes walk into St Peter Port centre. We spent a lovely afternoon relaxing by the pool which is heated to 23 degrees. Nicholas another of the reception team who never failed to acknowledge us each time we walked through the foyer, booked our taxi for the airport and the next day we waved goodbye to the charming oasis that is The Duke of Richmond.

The service at this hotel is excellent
Everyone calls you by your name. Nothing is too much trouble and small requests easily accommodated. The rooms were very comfortable with beautiful linen and pillows
My only small complaint was that to have a sea view you had to pay for an upgrade which I decided I did not need. The breakfast menu is extensive including fresh juices and a good selection of hot and cold dishes

What a delightful stay my husband and I had on our first visit to this beautiful island. The hotel was just what we wanted - lovely spacious room, bathroom very new with non slip shower and floor which is important to me. The bar and restaurant were excellent - we had dinner the first evening and just a bar snack the second. Breakfast was simply beautiful - one of the best we have ever come across. Staff very friendly -nothing too much trouble. Just perfection. We would definitely not want to stay anywhere else. Thank you

The service was exemplary and the team were always so helpful cheerful and polite -special mention to Belen Bradley Portia Paul Suzanne and Brightness. And some whose names I have forgotten but an amazing team
Breakfast was delicious with a huge variety including gluten free options and even we were the last to leave we were never rushed
The room was spacious and a real treat to have the suite. Towels were plentiful and excellent quality and bath and a shower.
Huge bed which was very comfortable with lovely crisp white linen
Great location with a 5 minute walk to the port where there were lots of restaurants and a good atmosphere
We had the car so travelled around the island but when we needed a taxi the hotel were as ever there to help and sort for us

We were two couples all over 70 years. My husband and I had a very nice Seaview room. Very comfortable bed, and the air conditioner was very welcome. However the draw space was totally inadequate. A chest of drawers rather than a dressing table would have been better, and at least one suitcase stand. The bathroom was lovely with lots of towels, and plenty of hot water. However the shower was so forceful that the shower screen could not possibly keep the water inside the bath. All we could do was to put the towels on the floor to mop up the tsunami. Breakfast was excellent, but dinner was a bit hit and miss. The first night (friday) it was excellent, Saturday was another story. We ate out on the Sunday. Our final evening meal on the Monday was, once again, very good. The walk down into town through the Candie Gardens was lovely, but a steep walk back. It is possible to get a taxi back up the hill, but we did manage to walk it, albeit, with a few stops on the benches along the way. All in all we very much enjoyed our stay.

What a fabulous hotel. The staff are amazing, friendly, professional with a genuine smile each time we spoke with them.
The hotel is classy & elegant, rooms are spacious & well laid out. We dined at DOR one night & the food was delicious. Thank you to Brightness, Nellie, Bradley & Sharone in the restaurant. Special thanks to Reception staff especially Nellie.
Nothing is too much trouble. All requests by us were met with a smile & quickly dealt with.
We definitely felt as though we got our monies worth from our stay & will be back to stay in the future. Thank you to everyone at the hotel for making our stay with you a lovely experience.

Having read the previous review about Sunday lunch, I’m not sure we were both in the same place as we had a wonderful lunch.
The roast beef was succulent, melted in your mouth served with a rich and tasty gravy. Crispy roast potatoes with lovely fresh seasonal vegetables.
The staff were friendly, attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them.
As for the desert, wow! A trio of chocolate, what’s not to love. Top marks to the chef.

What an absolutely amazing Sunday lunch! We live in guernsey and have had many a good meal but this simply is the best...the staff are amazing (aoife, aimed, Paul and of course the manager Gareth to name a few) but my god....the food! Not sure who the chef was today but that was amazing...currently lying on the couch as I type having eaten enough for the rest of 2021! Thank you so much! Please give it a try...you won't be disappointed!

Great location for a stay in Guernsey, walking distance to the town and harbour. Rooms very comfortable with excellent bathroom and very clean - good room service. However, I would NOT recommend eating dinner in the restaurant, service was appalling the first night we arrived, 1.5 hrs with no food, not even bread basket and when the food arrived it was just about edible, I certainly didn't enjoy my meal - however breakfast the following morning was very good.

We stayed here for five days recently and very much enjoyed our stay at the hotel and the islands in general. This was helped by the excellent weather we had. The hotel is very unique and somewhat quirky, but we really enjoyed it. The room was very comfortable, the food excellent both at breakfast and on the couple of occasions we had lunch and an evening meal. The only minor gripe we had was that there were a couple of late functions on the Friday and Saturday nights, which were a bit noisy, but it did not spoil our stay.

Special mention must go to the staff, who could all be named as providing a courteous but unobtrusive and excellent service from reception throughout the hotel. We particularly enjoyed the chats we had with Andrew and Paul who both set us at ease and made our stay enjoyable.

We would certainly come back again and hope to do so soon.

On previous trips to Guernsey we have stayed at the sister hotel the Old Government House but as we were unable to book there this time, we chose the DoR instead. It turned out to be just as good as the OGH and despite the review saying "appalling" we thought it was very good. The staff can't do enough for you and it is very comfortable.

But, it really is up a steep hill. I am fit and it doesn't bother me, but there were people staying in the hotel who had sticks and crutches and were clearly not very mobile. Maybe they got taxis everywhere, but do bear it in mind. The OGH is nearer town.

It's well worth paying the extra for a sea view and being on the top floor meant it was quiet without noisy people galumphing around over our heads.

Just spent a thoroughly enjoyable two weeks at the Duke of Richmond hotel in St Peter Port, Guernsey. The hotel is well-located about ten minutes’ walk from the town centre, although potential visitors should be aware that walking around St Peter Port generally involves some relatively steep hills. Our room was clean and very nicely appointed, although storage was slightly limited.

In my opinion the Duke of Richmond has two major selling points: its food and beverage menu, and its staff. Regarding the former, we ate breakfast in the restaurant every day and also had dinner there on three occasions. The menu was extensive and the quality a match for any of the restaurants that we visited in Guernsey. Re the latter, we found the staff were extremely attentive, helpful and friendly and I cannot recall any hotels visited in the past few years that have surpassed the Duke of Richmond in this respect. Every staff member that we dealt with was brilliant, but we would particularly single out Aine, Kishen, Andrew, Nicholas and Paul as being exceptional.

Overall, a great experience and I would highly recommend the Duke of Richmond for visitors wishing to stay in St Peter Port.

We stayed 5 nights in a suite. Sea views are a bit of a stretch, but nevertheless nice views. Very nice room, big, comfortable with all the nice things. Good food and attentive staff. Walking distance to town centre. Highly recommend!

We stayed 5 nights at this hotel. We had a standard room for 1 night on our way to Sark and a sea view for 4 nights on our return, Both rooms were very comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The hotel was busy but the staff worked tirelessly to make every guest feel special. The pool areas was very comfortable we were able to use the outdoor pool at it was heated.
It is a nice walk down from the hotel to the centre, but rather a steep walk back. You could get a taxi back up, the cost approximately £6. All in all we had a lovely stay.

Probably the best hotel in the port of Guernsey with exceptional service. Rooms are very comfortable. Showers are powerful. Breakfast and dinning room are tastfully presented. Breakfast is good.
Top tip: get a deal with breakfast included.
Recommended and would rebook.
Cabs to airport is £30 flat rate

Spent 4 nights here and what a wonderful choice we made. From the minute we arrived we were made most welcome. Our classic room was well equipped and a real bonus with water supplied as complimentary.
Breakfasts were truly scrumptious being part continental and the hot meal cooked to order. Could not fault anything.
We had dinner one evening in the restaurant as we were celebrating a big anniversary and birthday rather late (due to Covid) and the chateaubriand was the best we had ever eaten. The staff were so attentive. I could have got used to living like a Lady there. Compliments to the chef.
No wonder the Red Carnation chain has done well in the Travel industry awards. Everything about them is first class.
Would love to return there again. Thank you Gareth and team.

The high ratings are justified. We had 2 standard rooms - although anything but 'standard'. Spotlessly clean & super comfortable. Efficient & friendly check-in. Reception staff always friendly & helpful. The car parking spaces are on a first-come-first-served basis & for a £10 deposit, the receptionist gave us the card-clock for the car.
Guernsey island parking - an oddity. Roads/areas around the island are designated a time parking is permitted - free from 6pm to 8am, but restricted during the day in hours stated. You have to put a clock in the window of the time you arrive & your stay is determined by the number of hours on the sign. We found a road that gave a parking time of 10 hours so effective free 24hrs.
Breakfast was superb. As was the Leopard restaurant where we had one evening meal.
The pool looked inviting but we didn't use it -
The only thing to be aware of is it's a steep walk up from the high street - at least 15mins slowly.

The 3 most notable observations we had about this hotel were a) all the staff were extremely courteous and obliging, each would be an ambassador for any hospitality venue b) the refurbishments have been designed with a very distinctive palette of colour and style. It looks as though someone has gone to a great deal of trouble to make the communal areas stand out and had fun sourcing furnishings to go with the styling and c) the hotel is pretty much close the highest point of St Peter Port. Great for the sea view room we booked, but a little bit of cardio workout each time you walk back from the town centre.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, our only niggles were minor. For somewhere so service orientated it seemed strange to receive our breakfast tea/coffee well into the completion of our breakfast on a few occasions, twice after our cooked breakfast had been finished. During covid times it seemed odd not to have soap in the rooms, we bought our own. 2 of the 3 dispensers in the shower didn't work, we mentioned it and were encouraged to try again, but the maid explained that many guests were struggling to get them to work, she couldn't.

If we come to Guernsey again I would have no hesitation in choosing this hotel or its sister hotel (which is a little nearer the town centre).

All my family came to visit for my wedding and we all had a great time. They loved the hotel and especially the food which they described as outstanding (well done chef!)
I had Sunday dinner with them and it was stunning!
Thanks all for making it a special few days

We drove off the ferry and got to the hotel with 5 minutes. We were met at the door by a very kind member of staff who helped us in with our luggage.

Unlike the Old Government House, which this is a sister hotel of, the gentleman couldn’t park my car and there were only 6 spaces in the designated area. I was told to leave in the unloading bay and make sure to leave before 10am for fear of the traffic wardens.

We had our dogs with us and the hotels refreshing approach to them is a real game changer for travellers who take their dogs with them. We were able to eat in the Jaguar Bar with the dogs and we were offered dog beds for them for the room. There is a park directly across from the hotel which makes toilet breaks easy and a good size to give them a walk.

The food was very good. The stand out was the home made apple crumble. It was to die for but huge however please keep it that way because although I gained weight it was so tasty (better with vanilla ice cream and lots of it).

Our room was 107 and had a big bed and a bathroom. I would say it was more of a 4 star for the room itself. The bed was a good size but you’d struggle to spend much time in their for a whole day because of the size and lack of seating area. This was an upgraded room as well so ask what larger rooms there are if you need to work.
