I stayed here with my sisters for a weekend get away! Beautifully decorated rooms and reception area. The breakfast room is stunning with an amazing clear glass into the kitchen where you can see the chef making your breakfast! I would definetly recommend the pancakes!
I was really impressed with the pool area the hotel had to offer with comfortable lounging chairs and complimentary juices provided! If you are blessed with nice weather like we were, the pool is a lovely area to spend a few hours relaxing.
I look forward to returning!

This Hotel is both stunning and quirky. The common spaces, restaurant, lounge terrace and bar are unique and the rooms provide everything you could need and more. Every single member of staff deserves 'Employee of the Year' although a special mention must be given to Gwyn and Carina. Very slightly spoiled by an inappropriate booking - a stag party of single loud and unpleasant blokes - which meant the pool and terrace became unpleasant for a few days. Our room, 102, had a wonderful sea view, but was very close to the pool and the terrace, beware if you want peace and privacy. On our anniversary we returned to our room to find a bottle of bubbly. The breakfasts are the best I have ever had and the dinner was excellent. All in all a fabulous place to stay.

From being welcomed as we arrived by Gwyn, the concierge and the front desk lady, Tatiana, our stay was second to none. The room was a bit on the small side, but afforded easy access to the sun terrace and pool. Apart from that we had a wonderful stay and the restaurant staff, particularly Olga and Carina made sure we were always seated in the conservatory for meals. The staff were very friendly, always had a smile and seemed to enjoy working at this hotel. We particularly liked the reception area and the residents' lounge, although we did not spend much time there! We were there for a week and it rained twice but the hotel even arranged for that to be during the night!

The hotel is situated near Candie Gardens which has a breathtaking view over St. Peter Port Harbour, and in front of the hotel is a lovely quiet park.

Yes, we would recommend the Duke of Richmond,Guernsey.

This was our first trip to Guernsey. As regular hotel users, both for business and pleasure, this is without doubt one of the best hotels we have stayed in. All the staff are friendly and helpful, and obviously enjoy working at the hotel. We were there for 7 nights, had an excellent breakfast each morning, and dinner on three nights. The food quality and the service was better than any of the restaurants we ate in on the other nights.

The service we had was second to none, we only stayed 3 nights but staff made a real effort to remember our names, a little thing but a nice touch. The accommodation was clean, spacious and well maintained. The decor was interesting! Some might say a bit 'bling', yes animal print furniture, upholstery and carpets in your average house would look a bit tacky, but in this hotel it was fun and a little tongue in cheek. Breakfast was great, lots of choice, well presented and good quality. The only minor drawback is lack of parking spaces, which is due to the location in St Peter Port, I feel mean even mentioning this but it's worth warning people to drop bags off and then park, this wol not put us off going back

Just spent 4 nights in Room 208 and from the minute we arrived to the minute we left the staff were amazing as was the hotel . The decor is stunning and I loved the leopard bar and the foyer is very nice. The staff are the friendliest and most helpful I have ever met - having worked for a large hotel chain myself I know how hard their job is and they did it with seamless effiency and were the happiest team of hotel staff i have ever met and nothing was too much for them .
The room may have been a bit on the small size but the decor was excellent and cleanliness was to be complimented also the small bathroom was super clean and had everything anybody could need
The Leopard Bar & Restaurant were 1st class - we loved the food, the cocktails and the fantastic service from all the lovely staff
Also we thought the breakfast was excellant the staff were fantastic and the food also was great as you could have whatever combo of breakfast you wanted and it was cooked to order
DOR is one of the best hotels we have stayed in - the staff are all wonderful and we hope to return

Due to fog at Guernsey, I was unable to get home so had to find a hotel for the night, and I'm so glad I found this one. An absolute stunner, with fantastic staff, super food and rooms to die for. The little attention to details really impressed me. I have travelled the world and stayed in some of the best hotels but I have never stayed anywhere where the TV remote has been sanitised and sealed in a plastic bag - how thoughtful! Cleanliness was absolutely faultless. Now when I travel I can assure you I will ALWAYS choose a Red Carnation hotel wherever I can.

We booked a room with a seaview and were allocated 317. The view from the room is at 90 degrees to sea, and looks out over the roof of the hotel restaurant and its terraces. We queried this with hotel reception, who confirmed that 317 is classed as a Seaview room. In fairness, turning 75 to the left does afford a partial view of the harbour, and the hotel have offered to try to move us, but they can't tonight because they are fully booked, and anyway we have unpacked and can't be bothered to move. I just wish they wouldn't play so loosely with their description of ' Seaview. ' Treeview might be more appropriate. Service at breakfast was somewhat slow, as noted by one other reviewer, and when we returned to the hotel today at 1540 the room service staff were still making up the room, even though we had left it at 1000! They apologised profusely, ' it's because we're full. ' No problem, but it will be interesting to see how this hotel copes in all aspects, when it's full tonight. Oh, and 317 seems to be a bit of a blind spot for the free WIFI, which keeps disconnecting itself. Going out into the corridor resolves the problem!

Firstly guernsey isn't cheap. To get a B and B can be up to 100 quid so we decided to plump for 145 including brekkie in a nice hotel for our weekend get away. And what a nice hotel it is! A decidedly boutique feel greets you in the chess board floored lobby, ok perhaps the decor is a little 'faux Crazy Bear' but it's so quaint and the staff are so lovely you forgive them for anything.

The beds pillows and down duvet are to die for, in fact the quality of the rooms is first class. A short 10 min stroll takes you down to the town, quite steep on the way back so grab a short cab or work out your calves! The bar and restaurant are fab and very welcoming, 20 quid for a cracking bottle of Pinot noir. The view from the terrace at sunset its tranquil, I didn't try the pool but he whole outside area is immaculate.

Last but not least the brekkie is fab. The works with fried bread, black pud and fantastic coffee. Will def go again.

We stayed for four nights at the end of May, for our wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful room (Room 503), with views over the town and sea. Service was impeccable from the minute we arrived until we left, especially from the Reception staff and in the restaurant. We had a lovely surprise on our anniversary, when a bottle of chilled champagne was left in our room. The hotel organised taxis to and from the airport and even arranged flowers to be delivered to my wife on the day of our anniversary. Food in the restaurant was superb, as was afternoon tea on the terrace. We will certainly return.

We arrived fairly early and were greeted by the friendly concierge and reception staff who looked after our luggage so that we could have a wander around town before check-in time.
Check-in was efficient and we were shown to our rooms and helped with our luggage.
The rooms were not large but were very comfortable with an interesting padded fabric wall and thick carpets. Complimentary water and a free use of a safe in each room. Flat screen TV. Double glazed and a sea view. Air conditioning that functioned well.
Very clean bathroom with ample hot water and a power shower. Hairdryer. Heated towel rail. Complimentary bath gel, shampoo and conditioner. Thick white towels.
The reception area, lounge area and bar area were very distictive in their styling which made for an interesting environment in which to enjoy a drink. Complimentary drinks like iced tea and bottled water in the reception area too!
The restaurant and bar was efficient, friendly, professional and comfortable.
Breakfasts were help yourself cereals, fresh fruits, croissants, cheeses and meats etc etc and a cooked breakfast to order from an extensive menu. You can observe the "pass" and the chefs hard at work.
We ate an evening meal in the restaurant - absolutely delicious, fresh and well presented. Very attentive waiters without being over the top about it.
The whole hotel seems well managed, well trained, well organised and most important "Welcoming".
A final and unexpected touch was a delicious fresh cream and strawberry birthday cake left in my room which we shared with our friends.
Couldn't fault it even if I tried (and I won't) - therefore in my opinion 5* on TripAdvisor!!!

first class hotel, very comfortable room with lots of lovely little touches to make things special, decor of entire hotel very pleasing, cuisine first class, every dish delightful in quality, quantity and presentation, but the real star of the show was the staff, nothing was too much trouble, they knew what i wanted before i did, and provided it with smiles, and always remembering my name.
in future, when looking for a hotel, i will not be asking , is it 5 star? but is it a red carnation hotel

Went to Guernsey for a long weekend to celebrate a friends 50th birthday. We stayed at the Duke of Richmond and from the moment we arrived to the time we left the service was fantastic. Even being invited to have champagne one evening in honour of the birthday girl :)

Little touches of having free bottle‘s of water in the lobby are appreciated. The bar staff were all very friendly (Carmen thank you for looking after us so well – we did keep you busy :)

Great hotel would highly recommend a stay. Thank you and hope to go back soon.

From the moment we arrived the welcome was friendly and professional. Service was excellent throughout from breakfast to dinner. The evening meals were fresh and superbly cooked, especially the fish specials - the brill was delicious. The room (501) was clean and bathroom spacious but the bedroom was very small and a little over the top decor (also too many mirrors everywhere). We would definitely recommend the hotel and hope to return next year. Probably go for a sea view next time!

An excellent hotel with extremely attentive staff who made an effort to remember room numbers and names and use them! Dining was superb, breakfast choices excellent. Cleanliness was to a very high standard and our superior room was "superior" indeed! Compared to many hotels we have stayed in over the years, I would say that this definitely falls into our Top 3! We hope to visit again!!

What makes this hotel stand out is the level of service and personal attention. The staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for you. The food is very good although maybe the service at breakfast could be made more efficient but that is a very minor point indeed. I really enjoyed my stay and would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Strange. I was in Room 407 as well, though not at the same time as Michael P of course ! Quaint, you might call it a boutique hotel, aspiring to greatness, but not living in the real world. Junior suite had all suite amenities but still a sight smaller than any standard USA hotel room. Though heated bathroom floor was a useful touch. TV options limited.

But step back...check-in smooth & courteous. Daily key drop-off friendly but not intrusive. Reception is best part of hotel.

Must admit though, much better than other so-called hotels in St Peter Port.

Restaurant. Hmmm. Tables small, no room for an elbow or a blackberry. Food portions miniscule, nouvelle cuisine in Guernsey ? Ha-Ha. Pricey for a handful of nothing, especially the sea bass. Make sure you order plenty of vegetables to go with the main course. Service very good, but flunkies over-attentive, every twitch I made produced some junior at my elbow, asking if my courgette was warm enough. I dare not catch their eye. But female restaurant duty managers all very cute...

A great choice on my part makes me a hero with my wife. Choosing the Duke of Richmond elevated me to that status. In a junior suite (407) overlooking the gardens and harbor, with a full moon is a great start. The decorating, and all the little touches are spot on. The room is spotless, the restaurant was excellent, and she couldn't be more pleased. Just a little thing - but in all our hotel stays we've never had a light in the safe. Like I said - all the little touches. Highly recommended.

We chose this hotel for our first visit to Guernsey as during our hard earned annual weeks holiday, we wanted a couple of nights in somewhere upmarket. The rooms were beautiful, if somewhat minute in size. The webpage makes the rooms look much larger. However, the devil is in the detail. There were soft fluffy towels, comfy slippers & REAL, soft, loo roll. (No sandpaper here :) ). The staff are all good looking, attentive and interested in their guests, however, some accents were difficult to understand. Special mention to the breakfast staff & the sweet barman who's girlfriend works in the restaurant, Lovely people. The food is excellent, wonderful tastes and beautifully presented. We had a lovely two days and checked out happy.

This is where the problems started.... We travelled on to Jersey and checked into our hotel. Two days later, on checking out, my credit card was refused. This was so embarrassing you would not believe it. I knew exactly how much credit was on my card when I left home and had allocated my hotels accordingly. I telephoned Visa, to be told, that the Duke of Richmond had not lifted the pre authorisation on the three rooms which they had put on my card, despite us having paid in full. So they had taken the £400 for the bill & had £650 pre authorisation also held. Basically, I had 2 days holiday left + the journey back by land to Ireland..and NO credit on my card. Needless to say, I was livid.
I telephoned the hotel and explained the situation to the hotel manager. He said "Are you sure" ...of course I was bl***y sure. What a question ?? He said he would check it out and call me back.

I spent the penultimate day of our holiday constantly on the phone (roaming tarrif ) calling the hotel and visa, I must have made 10 or 15 calls. The manager refused to admit that it was the hotels error that the pre authorisation was not released on checkout and it was only that night that a lady who is head of operations admitted that, yes, somebody had dropped the ball.

The manager said he lifted the pre authorisation on Friday (it should have been done at check out on Wednesday morning), it would take 24 to 48 hours to clear and it was out of his hands.

On Friday night, my two friends and I booked into our final hotel in Jersey. Fortunately, my friend was able to pay my accommodation and dinner on her card. We had to limit our activities on the last two days in case there was an emergency on the way home. Put it this way.we had one precious week away a year and two days of it ruined.

I emailed the hotel manager asking if I could have contact details for the proprietor, this is what I got back:

Dear Mrs ******,

It was a pleasure to meet you and your friends during your visit at the Duke of Richmond Hotel this week. Please accept my apologies for only replying to you now as we have been experiencing a disruption to our email service late this afternoon.
Our General Manager, is based at our sister hotel, The Old Government House Hotel here in Guernsey and I would refer you to him in the first instance.
His contact details are:
If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me direct at the hotel.
Kind regards,
********* ********
ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE ?? We had at least 6 or 7 telephone calls that day !!!

I emailed the General Manager on Friday and he called me on Monday. The least I expected was a voucher for one of their hotels for me and my companions, their last two days were also spoilt due to my anger and constant telephone calls. What did I get..a refund on ONE nights accommodation and to let him know if I got a large phone bill.

What a pity, a beautiful hotel, lovely food and then BANG, a holiday spoiled. Do visit the Duke of Richmond. But DON'T let them pre authorise your credit card.

We stayed here for a long weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary and would highly recommend this hotel. We had a king seaview room which was spacious and comfortable with everything we needed and more including lovely fluffy towels and robes. The staff were all friendly and gave efficient and prompt service without exception. The breakfast is extensive with good quality freshly cooked ingredients and the afternoon tea was great with an amazing choice of teas and information about their origin. The only slight disappointment was the cheese board at dinner which seemed to consist of average components with no information given about the cheese and apparently no local ingredients which considering the location would have been expected. That aside we had a wonderful weekend and will definitely be returning.

My wife and I stayed there for seven nights during may. It was a relaxing experience in a spotlessly clean hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The staff gave us a lot of information about the area and were very helpful and friendly. The room we stayed in was elegant and comfortable, the service during our stay was 5 star .Breakfast was excellent with great service. We ate one evening in the hotel, very good food and attentive service. On the other evenings we tried the local restuarants , all were very good. The hotel was in a good location 7/10 minute walk from the sea front and harbour , local bus stop 100yard stroll .All in all a great stay, we would certainly book this hotel again when we next visit Guermsey and would recommended it to our friends and family.
