For the fourth year running local offshore law firm Bedell Guernsey, in partnership with the Guernsey Sports Commission, commit to a week long celebration of local sports volunteers.
Bedell Volunteers’ Week runs from Monday 12th October 2015 until Monday 19th October 2015, raising awareness of the sports volunteering opportunities available that allow islanders to give something back to their local community.
This week also recognises the contributions of local sports volunteers, who give up their time and experience to assist with the running of Guernsey sports clubs and events. Without their selfless service such events as the 2015 Island Games would not be possible.
Mark Helyar, managing partner at Bedell Guernsey, said: "The success of so much of the Bailiwick’s community activity relies on islanders able and willing to volunteer and, as a business with a long standing culture of community engagement, Bedell is delighted to once again support this week long initiative. It recognises the extraordinary contribution of volunteers in sport while also encouraging others to come forward."
On Monday 19th October 2015 the Guernsey Sports Commission will host a Volunteer Recognition Evening at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre from 6.00pm which is free to attend (please RSVP by email to info@guernseysports.com if you plan to attend).
Two awards will be made on the night, to one outstanding local sports volunteer, and also to a local youth volunteer under 21 who has made a major contribution to sport in Guernsey. Both award winners are yet to be determined; your nominations for either award should be sent to the Guernsey Sports Commission by email to info@guernseysports.com. Please provide a contact telephone number and a summary of why you are nominating the individual.
There will be coverage of this initiative throughout Bedell Volunteers' Week in the Guernsey Press, highlighting local volunteers and needed roles in Guernsey sports organisations and events.
