Called Electric Living, the initiative is an impartial resource hub providing up-to-date information for local electrical and plumbing contractors to share with domestic and commercial customers and in doing so guide them in making the best choice for their heating and other electrical solutions, such as electric vehicle charging.
To kickstart the campaign, Guernsey Electricity hosted a seminar on Wednesday 28 April attend by 45 electrical and plumbing contractors and local trade suppliers who had the opportunity to learn about the initiative, the company’s future plans for the network and the latest technological developments.
Stuart Blondel, Guernsey Electricity’s chief commercial officer, said the company hoped to inspire the industry to take the lead in creating a greener and more sustainable future.
“It is clear that more Islanders and local and international businesses want to move away from burning fossil fuels in their homes and businesses and are more aware of environmental issues than ever before.
We have seen a record number of enquiries for electric heating solutions over the past 12 months and are keen to join forces with local electrical and plumbing contractors to help meet these and the demands for other electrical solutions together as a community."
The online resource, www.electricliving.gg provides information on the benefits of switching to electric, Guernsey’s network capabilities and sources of electricity. It offers advice on a range of electric heating products, including air source heat pumps, combi boilers, comparisons with using fossil fuels and electricity, along with charging points for electric vehicles. The site will be updated as new electrical technologies and solutions become available, ensuring consumers and the trade are kept up to date.
Mr Blondel added:
"Guernsey has already taken steps towards electrifying our future through importing renewable and sustainable electricity, which counts for more than 90% of the Island’s demand. This latest initiative takes us that little bit further along the road towards a more sustainable future for all in our community.”
