Blanchelande is a Catholic school - founded in 1902 as a small school for girls by a French order of nuns - rooted in love of God and service to neighbour. The school educates over 375 boys and girls of a range of backgrounds and beliefs. The school offers an excellent academic and co-curricular education which fosters joyful, confident and successful pupils.

Blanchelande’s rural setting in Les Vauxbelets ('beautiful valleys') is glorious, and unrivalled on the island: the children play in acres of space; sports pitches are on-site; one of Guernsey’s landmarks, the Little Chapel, is part of the College estate; the children look out on to fields of Guernsey cows and walk to lessons accompanied by chickens and ducks.  We have ambitious plans for development too, including a new sports hall and a rolling renovation programme.

Excellent GCSE results
In 2017 pupils celebrated the College's best examination results in over a decade. 100% of pupils achieved at least five A*-C grades, while the number of A*-A grades doubled, reaching 33%. In 2018 the proportion of top grades at GCSE (7-9/A*-A) continued to rise, to over 38%.

Infants (age 4-7) 
Blanchelande’s infant school is for boys and girls aged 4-7. Reception and Years 1 and 2 are housed around the Rosaire courtyard and from their classrooms they can spill out onto the decking for work and play. Just a minute away the Infants have their own forest school, and their playground overlooks herds of friendly cattle: a rural idyll in which to observe the changing seasons, amid literally acres of outdoor space. The children benefit from small class sizes, outdoor learning and an innovative curriculum. The infant department is a place of security, joy, friendship and adventure.

Juniors (age 8-11) 
Blanchelande’s junior school is for boys and girls aged 8-11. Years 3 to 6 are housed in the main school where the curriculum broadens to include specialist teaching in several subjects, including Languages (French and Latin), Music, History and Art. We are developing a ‘liberal arts’ curriculum in the junior school, teaching knowledge and culture (the ‘best that has been known and thought’) as an integrated, synchronized whole, fostering lateral thinking and cultural literacy. Our primary school pupils transfer automatically at 11+ to the senior school.

Seniors (age 11-16) 
Blanchelande’s senior school is for boys and girls aged 11-16. Whether moving up from our prep school or joining Blanchelande from elsewhere, all pupils begin by consolidating core knowledge and skills and following a broad curriculum of arts, sciences, humanities, technical skills and sport. Blanchelande educates pupils to be intellectually accomplished but also to have wide interests and practical skills – including ICT, cookery and Design Technology – that will set them up for their lives ahead. There is also a wide range of extra-curricular activities for students to get involved with before, during and after school. Pupils select their GCSE options at the end of Year 9 and most work towards nine or ten GCSEs from Year 10.

Sixth Form
In February 2019 Blanchelande announced exciting plans to restablish its Sixth Form in September 2020. Further details will be available soon, and enquiries will be welcomed by the Registrar (details below).

Development 
We have many plans for development over the next five years. Recently completed projects include a brand-new Arts Centre housing Art, Music and Drama, phase 1 of an Undercroft development on our lower ground-floor and a stunning new cricket pitch. Future projects include a cricket pavilion, new senior school library and a sports hall.

Admissions 
Boys and girls can join the College from their fourth birthday (into Reception) or at age 11 (into Year 7), and into other year groups, where places are available. We have an open morning each September, but our Registrar, Sonia Hollowell, is always delighted to meet new families and show them round the school.
