Frances Lemmon
Frances trained at London College of Printing, Sir John Cass and Camberwell School of Art in London in the 1980's before working as a theatre set painter in the West End, a faux finisher and muralist - all of which have influenced her style of painting in different ways. After having set up her own business as a decorative artist and signwriter in New Zealand, Frances returned to Guernsey in the early 2000's and has worked full time as an artist ever since.
Her work is greatly influenced by literature and in 2018 she published "Guernsey legends" with Jane Mosse and Steve Foote, showcasing a series of paintings she had made in response to long forgotten stories set within the local landscape.
Guernsey seafarer William Le Lacheur also peeked her interest and in 2019 she travelled to Costa Rica to document his life and work culminating in an exhibition in San Ramon, where she was staying and in Guernsey, at the Guernsey Museum and in the Market Buildings.
This exhibition is telling yet another story, that of George Sand, the pioneering and internationally acclaimed French female writer of the nineteenth century who was a contemporary of Victor Hugo and had a long letter writing correspondence with him throughout his life. The result is a body of work reflecting her life and landscape as seen through an artists' eyes.
In 2018 Frances appeared on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year.
