Arrived at hotel, glass of bubbly and they even parked car for us.
Took our case to the room.
Had a lovely room with seaview as requested.
Nothing too much trouble, got tickets for Herm day trip for us as well.
Service first class,food very good.
Told them it was our wedding anniversary and they decorated bed and left cakes and bubbly as a surprise.
Would give this 5 stars.
Would also like to say thank you to Andrew going above and beyond with first class service.
Many thanks for a lovely weekend ogh

Just had a 3 night break to Guernsey staying at OGH. We have stayed there before and it is still an excellent hotel with nice rooms, good food and very friendly staff. The room we were allocated was a little small so we asked for a bigger room which they organised straight away with no extra charge. Our new room was excellent. The other factor for staying at OGH is it's closeness to the main street of St. Peter Port.
We will stay there again in the near future.

Just returned from a long weekend spent at this wonderful hotel. Staff were excellent, going out of their way to be helpful and friendly - everything from parking the car to their care when my wife twisted her ankle, including volunteering a bucket of ice for the swelling. The building preserves some nice period features, including a beautiful lobby. The Brasserie is particularly attractive. Excellent breakfasts and afternoon teas, with the hotel participating in Guernsey’s Tennerfest in October, making a three course evening meal very affordable (£20 a head).

Booked as a short break treat for my husband's birthday, we were unlucky that the tail end of an Atlantic storm caused the crossing from Poole to be cancelled, but were lucky that we were able to switch to the next day and the OGH moved our booking to a day later-phew!

The hotel was really hard to find but only because the road was temporarily closed or it would have been a doddle, straight across the roundabout from the quay. The States of Guernsey closed roads all over the place every day of our stay which was really annoying as they didn't put proper diversions in place so we couldn't find some places we wanted to visit and the buses were rerouted as well- so beware if you are travelling out of season like us (although it was during Tennerfest when they are supposed to be attracting visitors-go figure!)The streets are crazily narrow so it was a good system they had in place where they park your vehicle for you, you just pull into the parking bay at the entrance.

The hotel is immaculate, fresh flowers, and lovely decor give a good first impression, the staff were very welcoming too. Our room was already available at 11am which was a welcome surprise after our rough crossing as was a glass of bubbly. Our King room had a really comfortable superking bed with plenty of big feather pillows as well as a special V pillow for my bad back(I had requested feather as they ask your preference before you stay as well as the back support pillow) The room was fairly large with extensive coffee making facilities, two armchairs, and a large dressing table. There is a safe, but no fridge, and plenty of mirrors everywhere. The bathroom was spotless with very fast very hot water, a really deep bath as well as a separate shower cubicle. I was really happy to find my favourite L'Occitane toiletries supplied. It also has a blue low-light for any night time visits! The curtains are really thick with black out material and also a black out blind behind, so with the comfortable bed I had great nights sleep.

The weather was too bad to use the pool but the grounds were very well maintained, and made for a lovely view at breakfast. Breakfast had a very extensive menu. The food was all freshly cooked and all very good except for the smoked haddock kedgeree in which I couldn't find a single flake (or flavour) of fish- surprising as this hotel has a good reputation for curries- it was just rice with onion and peas in curry sauce. A shame as this is one of my favourite dishes usually.

Service was excellent at all times. My husband was really chuffed to receive a birthday card and a plate of little cakes on the first evening, a lovely touch. The turn down service was excellent and meant we got two home made biscuits every night- so good I wished I could have bought some to take home! They also put a copy of the local paper in the room for you every day.

We had cocktails a couple of evenings and it was very good service, and no more expensive than you would pay at a restaurant, with the bonus of a plate of nibbles like olives and nuts. The music was a bit old fashioned in the pub/bar though. We didn't eat dinner here as the menu choices didn't appeal to us, and we wanted to try lots of the tennerfest menus in town, but we heard people saying how lovely the food was.

We would recommend this hotel to anyone, it is a 2 minute walk from the shops and restaurants in St Peter Port, the rooms are very comfortable, and the service is top notch with lots of nice touches, so we look forward to visiting some more red carnation hotels in the future as well as revisiting this one.

We arrived at reception to a very warm welcome and glass of sparkly.
Our car was promptly taken away to be parked and after checking in, our bags were taken to our room. We retired to the lounge to relax, enjoy our drink and wait for our friends.
We are very much 'old school' when it comes to hotels and the OGH certainly meets our requirements.
After meeting our friends we went to our rooms to settle in.
Unfortunately this was disappointing and the following observations were made:

Bedroom
* Room was very pokey
* Carpet near bed had a black mark on it
* Light bulb was flickering on and off every 5 minutes with another bulb not working at
all
* Floor had creaky floor boards

Bathroom
* Screw caps missing from the toilet base
* Window blind fixed to the window at an unusual angle
* Black mould on the grout in the shower cubicle
* Light bulb not working
* Toilet seat scuffed with black showing through

Whilst this might seem trivial to some it is the attention to detail that makes a hotel a 5 star in all areas.

Our evening meal was very good and at all times we found the staff to be warm, friendly, genuine and helpful. It was obvious that they had been thoroughly trained in customer care skills without going over the top.

Breakfast was good however our friend found what appeared to be the top of a plastic bag in her breakfast bowl as she was eating her fruit. When reported to the staff an apology was given immediately and the chef advised.

Overall we had a great 60th birthday stay and none of the points I have made spoilt our stay, however 5 star should be 5 star and we were paying 5 star prices.

This will not deter us from coming again (nor should it you) as we have had many great times here, however it wouldn't take much to address the points I have identified to make this hotel truly 5 star.

We stayed five nights at OGH for a big wedding anniversary. We had a super stay.

There were a couple of niggles:
- Room service was a bit flakey and we ended up going to the restaurant ourselves to get fresh milk for our afternoon tea on our balcony.
- The Curry Room was shut for all our five nights which was a shame as I was very much looking forward to this. Although we probably could have ordered from the curry menu, as we were already eating in the restaurant six times, we decided to pass.

However there were many more plus points:
- Great location just above the shops and with a bike rack close by if you're exploring the island by bike (this was great)
- Comfortable bed and bedroom with a small hallway useful for leaving walking boots etc away from the carpet. Decoration perhaps rather traditional but made up for by the balcony.
- Small but nicely warm bathroom with plenty of fast hot water if you fancy a bath
- Excellent breakfast; good fruit, cereal and cooked to order hot stuff as well as a hot buffet. Thank you Mr Alessandro.
- Good housekeeping and turndown service. Nice homemade biscuits in a box!
- Helpful staff including concierge Andrew, house manager Zory and the ladies at reception.

Plus the thing that made it very special for us: a balcony with great views across the harbour to Herm, Jethou and Sark and, on a clear day, also Alderney, Jersey and France! You know you are in the Channel Islands! I watched and photographed four sunrises and, at the end of the afternoons, we had tea on the balcony. You can actually open and close the balcony so that, on a wet or cold day, you can still enjoy the view.

Overall it was a great few days. We did two days cycling, a day on Sark, a day walking and a day in town with an OGH cream tea. We ate at four restaurants in town and thoroughly enjoyed the October 'tennerfest' (more accurately 'twentyfest'!). So if this appeals to you, do consider the OGH - it's even on a Potato Peel Pie walk but I wont say why....

I have been here many times but have not written a review before. For business meetings in Guernsey this is definitely the place to stay, not least for its convenience. The staff are lovely. The lounge is a great place for a drink and the wines from the South African Bouchard Finlayson estate are exceptionally good. The winery is owned by the Red Carnation Group, the owner of the hotel.

EVERYTHING as excellent as all the other “Excellent” reviewers have stated. After we had checked in (room 204) we passed reception and Emily asked if everything was alright, I remarked the room was superb but not the most spacious we’d ever stayed in. An upgrade was soon arranged to Room 132, bigger but decorated in drab suede wall covering. After the long journey to get to Guernsey we settled down for an early night, it was then we discovered the room overlooked the kitchens and the 2 extractor fans ran until 10.45PM and started at 5.45AM. Another change to room, 323, PERFECT, QUIET, SPACIOUS and SUPERBLY decorated.
Throughout our whole stay, ALL the staff we encountered were excellent, if we needed to know anything or need help, by coincidence, it always seemed Jaro was right there..

We stayed for four nights in early October and were very impressed with the level of service provided to the guests. Our room had very nice amenities. The restaurant is very nice and we enjoyed dining there. One evening there was wedding reception with live music and we received a handed delivered note from the manager informing us of the event and hoping that we wouldn't be disturbed. Keep up the great level of service that you provide to your guests!
