We stayed here in September 16 and had a really lovely time. We travelled with a small dog who was able to stay with us in the room along with being loaned a dog bed and bowl plus having treats and a toy left for her. The staff made us feel settled and we couldn't have asked for more. A beautiful sea view from our balcony along with a lovely welcome drink made our stay that extra special! For a hotel that focuses completely on the customer, whether they have children, dogs or are solo, this gem of a hotel, just a few steps from the main shopping area of St Peter Port is a must!

I feel quite mean heading up my review like this because truly this is one of the very best hotels I've ever stayed in so - to get the negative bit over with first - we reserved a 'classic double' room and it was simply tiny. Only one chair to sit on, a squeeze for us to get into bed on either side and barely room to move for two adults in there at the same time.We were told that the dimensions of the room are on the hotel website but how many people would check that ? I must say that the lovely 'front of house' person, Andi, arranged for us to have a complimentary upgrade to a very much bigger and nicer room but the hotel was very busy and she struggled to find us another room so an upgrade can't be relied upon. As we were staying for a week we were prepared to change hotels so it wasn't a great start to the holiday.
On the positive side -the hotel is spotlessly clean and beautifully, traditionally furnished. The food is excellent -especially the breakfasts and every member of staff we met was friendly and helpful. I do have to say a special thank you to Ken who ran the brasserie with a good natured efficiency which is rarely seen even in the best hotels. The 'OGH' as it's known locally isn't inexpensive but I would certainly stay again (but I would book a bigger room ).

We were very comfortable here: the food was reliably good, breakfasts were very good and the service throughout was excellent. We took our elderly well behaved dog with us and he was made welcome!
We had a junior suite and it was a large comfortable room but style-wise it was cluttered with furniture, rather like being in an old persons house and initially we could hardly move. We actually asked them to remove a double faced bookcase from the end of the bed, which helped create more space. The furniture in our room was a bit dated, with a well patterned carpet but I think some of the rooms may have been updated. The location of the room was quiet and faced the back over the hill and we didn't hear any traffic or our neighbours.
Tea outside on the terrace was a real treat, we didn't use the pool or the gym.
Location wise the hotel is close to main shopping street etc, which was useful as St Peter Port is very hilly.
The staff park your car for you, which was a wonderful bonus as the car park was tiny and my husband got somewhat hot and cross trying to park for himself on our arrival.

I was working at the Duke of Richmond Hotel for a private party. The staff could not be more helpful, Aaron Mahy for arranging coffee and for us to have a small room we could use to keep our own things in. Aaron was on the ball with guests of the party he is a polite guy. Lukas for arranging food for us. The Hotel is clean and fresh. And.... they have mint humbugs in a jar for you to help yourself. Well done team at DOR keep it up.

Lucky to get into Guernsey that day due to weather but got a taxi to the Hotel and was pleasantly surprised by the taxi driver who gave an insight in to the history on the 2nd World War German Occupation, very interesting.
Arrived at the D-O-R and was greeted by a very pleasant Receptionist who made us feel welcome and to our delight our room was ready, and a very nice room it was overlooking the sea.
Our stay was very enjoyable and the food at the hotel was very good especially the breakfasts, good choice and nothing extra for haddock or smoked salmon, which is unusual but very nice. the dinner offered A La Carte or the well renown 'Tennerfest' which was still running. I must say though the food offered did vary from night to night or possible chef to chef but for the price it was good.
The staff attending to our needs both morning and night were exceptional and can not be praised enough for their manners, awareness and conversational skills as being from many different places in the world.
There were only 3 negatives, the alarm in the room was set off twice due to steam from bathrooms, also the information leaflet stated 'dental kit' was available, my partner forgot her toothbrush but alas they did not have one!
A problem did occur with he television service which was sorted out over night and back up and running by the morning, just a little inconvenient in having it checked out.
Overall a lovely place and we would go back and can recommend this hotel to others.

This hotel was booked for my by a colleague, so I didn't know anything (even the name) until we arrived.
The lobby is exquisitely decorated with displays of afternoon tea. Whilst the stairs are a bit excessive, it just adds to the charm of the hotel.

The rooms were a good size and the bathroom very modern and clean. I only wish I'd had more time to spend in the very comfortable bed.

For a first visit to Guernsey, this hotel was a very positive experience, with very friendly staff and very good food - the new winter menu had just been released and was a perfect selection.

Stayed overnight visiting from neighbouring Sark. A minor misunderstanding meant that there was no taxi on my arrival at the Sark quay, but this was swiftly rectified. From then on, my stay was faultless. Reception staff were superb. I was escorted to my room and given a full run-down on the facilities. I had requested a room with a walk-in shower. In the event, my room was very small, but had an extremely comfortable Queen bed and a great rain shower. The room was quiet and I slept well. Dinner was great, and I will review the restaurant separately. I had a lovely snack before leaving the hotel the following day. I wanted to return to the hotel in a few weeks, but as the hotel will be closed for refurbishments I have been booked into their sister hotel - a five star property - at a very reasonable rate. The General Manager is very much "hands on". I saw him three times in twenty-four hours, including an occasion when I asked for advice about operating the in-room air-conditioning. This is a lovely hotel, and I look forward to returning.

We stayed at the end of November/beginning of December to celebrate a milestone birthday for my wife. From the moment we arrived we were well looked after. The food is excellent with a good choice. Breakfast is particularly good and well worth taking your time over. The atmosphere in the hotel is relaxed, staff are very polite and efficient and certainly make you feel more than welcome. We prefer the Duke of Richmond to the OGH. Birthday celebration was wonderful culminating with a sweets plate and card left in the room whilst we were at dinner. We also sampled afternoon tea, which again was excellent, our advice would be not to arrange a meal anywhere on the night after, it really is satisfying and filling, just have a light supper. All in all a memorable occasion for the right reason.

This hotel is a good base . It's a ten minute walk to town, and although on a hill a taxi up is only five pounds if you don't fancy the walk back . There's a small corner shop just down the road and parks nearby. The position is very peaceful . The basic rooms are small but are mainly well decorated . Rooms were cleaned daily and they also offer a turn down service. The staff were friendly and the restaurant is obviously a big hit with locals too. Communication before we arrived was also very efficient. Overall we felt this was a pleasant hotel that I would go back to.
