I recently stayed for two nights at the Duke of Richmond with my small Lhsas apso Lucy and the staff I couldn't fault. The service was amazing but not intrusive and the surroundings and room lovely.

I have not travelled with a dog before and the hotel were really accommodating even providing Lucy with a dog bed and bedroom door notice so staff didn't disturb her too much. My dog was also welcome in the bar and so could eat with me so I didn't have to leave her in unfamiliar surroundings until she had adjusted. The balcony was safe and dog friendly too.
Hotel very accessible for St Peter Port centre also opposite a lovely quiet park and Guernsey museum both dog friendly. Food ws fabulous too. We will be back I should think

The Duke Of Richmond is a lovely hotel in a great location overlooking St Peter Port. Only a 5 minute walk into the town and very close to the Guernsey museum and the Victoria Tower. Lovely room and welcome. Our stay coincided with my 50th birthday and staff at the hotel really went out of their way to make my day extra special.
Glasses of champagne at breakfast and a chocolate and fruit happy birthday gift in our room. All the staff kindly signed a birthday card for me.
Breakfast was really good, lots of choice. We also dined in the restaurant and service and quality of food was excellent. The front of the hotel doesn't really do it justice but the interior is high quality. Our room could of been a bit bigger but only a minor gripe.
Highly recommend The Duke Of Richmond and we would most definitely stay there again if we return. St Peter Port is a great place to visit for a long weekend.

My husband surprised me by booking us into The Duke of Richmond Hotel for our 10th wedding anniversary, and from the moment we walked into the hotel we were not disappointed. The receptionists were polite, courteous, friendly and very informative on places of interest to visit. The room we stayed in was clean and bright. All the waiters and waitresses were very friendly and attentive and made recommendations of local produce and the best wines to drink with your menu choice. St Peter Port is about a 15 - 20 minute down-hill walk from the hotel with the beautiful Candie Gardens within a couple of minutes walk from the hotel, with amazing views over the Port.
All in all a fantastic hotel, friendly staff, amazing food and a hotel we will definitely be visiting again.
Thank you to all at The Duke of Richmond for making our 10th wedding anniversary very special.

We stayed at the Duke of Richmond for three nights in early May during a holiday in the Channel Islands.

On arrival the staff were very friendly; we had arrived an hour and a half before check in and our room wasn't quite ready, but they promised to put it on priority for us and offered us the use of the hotel facilities whilst we waited. Instead we chose to walk down to St Peter's Port, and on our return a few hours later everything was ready and our bags had already been taken up to the room.

We had booked a room with a sea view and were very pleased with it: the window seat was a great place to sit and look out over the sea to Sark and Jethou (I think?!) on the horizon. Although a little distance from the sea front, the hotel's elevation means that you get a great view.

We dined in the Leopard restaurant for both breakfast and dinner each day and really enjoyed that. There was a great choice of breakfast and the evening meals were good quality too. Restaurant staff were all very friendly.

If you haven't stayed in Guernsey before I should warn you that St Peter's Port is VERY hilly, and getting back to the hotel from the seafront is 15 to 20 minutes of very steep uphill walking. It was something we dreaded a little and indeed we'd been planning on trying a couple of the restaurants down in St Peter's Port, but arriving back each evening after the walk up the hill abandoned that plan and booked in at the Leopard to avoid a second uphill walk! I appreciate there's nothing the hotel can do about this and it probably affects a lot of the hotels in the town, but walking past the Old Government House (another hotel in the same chain) each day much further down the hill I did say a few times, "we'll look at staying there next time!"

If I have one criticism of the hotel itself it is that the wi-fi was very slow and unreliable. It just about coped with looking up bus times and booking things online (most of the time), but for video calls back home and watching Netflix it was useless.

There were a few other little niggles; however, as we were only staying a few nights and didn't spend much time in the room we didn't bother to ask the hotel to resolve them, so to be fair I can't really make any criticism there.

Overall however it was a very pleasant stay and, provided that the hill climb doesn't put you off, I would recommend the Duke of Richmond if you're looking for somewhere nice to stay in Guernsey.

My husband and I recently spent 4 nights at the Duke of Richmond Hotel. The Hotel arranged taxi transport for us from the airport, which worked out well. The Hotel is in a very nice neighborhood, with the entrance across from a large green. Our room was spacious and comfortable and provided many amenities. The staff was friendly and readily provided local information (although there was some confusion re a few queries) and arranged taxi transportation for some trips across the island and to the ferry port upon our departure. Breakfast was included and served in a glassed enclosed, sunny room. Breakfast and dinner (served in a more traditional room) offered many selections which were quite tasty. The Hotel is located very close to Candie Gardens (a beautiful large park that leads down towards town (St. Peter Port), the Library (which was showing exhibits during the Heritage Festival), the Guernsey Museum, and the German Underground Signal Corps Museum.. There is also a snack shop around the corner. Although it is a pleasant downhill stroll to the town (in nice weather), it is a very long and very uphill walk back (which can be done on several different routes). We highly recommend this hotel, with the caveat of the uphill walk back.

From the moment we arrived, we had excellent service. Aaron on concierge could not have been more helpful and cheerful: lifting luggage, booking taxis, pushing the wheelchair, helping with the computer. And in the restaurant, the staff were always welcoming and attentive. The food was good, the bed extremely comfortable, and the view of the fireworks from our balcony on Liberation Day was superb!

Recently I spent 9 nights at the DOR and from the smooth check in to easy check out the service was first rate.
I had a Superior Double room for single occupancy which was superbly furnished and maintained to a very high standard. I had a partial side view of the busy port and over the town
I had breakfast and dinner in the hotel each day and the service was both welcoming and attentive without being obtrusive. The breakfast was a veritable feast from the Continental buffet to the range of cooked food, cooked to order.
The evening meals were in my view exceptional , specially the fish dishes and were prepared to order and you could view them being cooked by the chefs through the glass screen in the restaurant.
Mention must be made of the chefs, the table waiting staff and bar staff for their professionalism and knowledge throughout my stay.
I hope to return later in the year

We stayed here for 3 nights. Our room and bed were very comfortable with robes and slippers provided. I liked the ambient lighting in the bathroom which was spotlessly clean and well appointed. We found the whole hotel quite old fashioned and the decor fussy and not to our taste, but it would be unfair of me to mark it down for those reasons. The staff were friendly and helpful and service excellent. Breakfast had plenty of choice, with buffet cereals, fruit and bread. Hot choices could be ordered and freshly cooked - one morning I chose the smoked haddock, the next two mornings I had a spinach and smoked salmon omelette. Hubby enjoyed a traditional full breakfast. Other people ordered waffles or pancakes with fruit and yoghurt or porridge. The hotel location was not a problem for us, but the walk back from St Peter Port is a hard walk uphill. We chose not to eat there and found the bar menu very limited. We enjoyed our time, but will not return simply because the decor and stuffiness of how the place is run is not for us.
