Did Guy Fawkes simply get unlucky? Is Bonfire Night in Guildford something that could have been avoided?

It is remarkable what a little bit of research can reveal.....

1605 was a tough time and many opposed James I as a king….after all that is what led to the attempt to blow up the House of Lords. In the years priot to 1605, small gunpowder plots were attempted but were of no real consequence.

Nevertheless, it is surprising that was possible for a group of men led by Robert Catesby along with Guy Fawkes to store 36 Barrels of Gunpowder in the cellar of the House of Lords without the security forces getting suspicious?

Did Robert Catesby betray Guy Fawkes? or ... were the King's guard already aware of the plot? There are many different thoughts on this but it is surprising that such a popular event occurs every year with very few people actually knowing the facts!
