Dodgy Christmas Present - what are your shopping rights in Guildford

... Comments

Contrary to popular belief - you don't have an undisputed entitlement to take things back !

Here's a summary of what does and doesn't apply ......

BOUGHT FROM LOCAL SHOP
Unless your present really is faulty you don't have any return rights, so ... wrong size or colour is irrelevant (legally) - except if a shop has a published returns policy, which will compliment your statutory consumer rights.

BOUGHT ONLINE
You are completely within your rights to return goods within 7 days for whatever reason and get a full refund and delivery charge back (except bespoke specially made goods/perishable items such as food).

LATE CHRISTMAS DELIVERY
If when your ordered it specifically stated 'pre-Christmas delivery' you are entitled to a full refund. If not you're not! - however..... remember!  online goods get the 7 day return right anyway.

LOST RECEIPT
For faulty goods, by law you only need to provide a proof of purchase, which can be literally anything (eg, card statement). Otherwise if the store returns policy specifically states 'receipt needed' you will need one.

WHO CAN RETURN IT
Technically, only the buyer has rights, unless there's a gift receipt. Biut in practice anyone, with proof of purchase can.
