This year Guildford Opera celebrates its 40th anniversary with the premiere of an opera by a living composer.
Based on William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, the premiere of an opera in five acts by Joe St Johanser takes place 29-30 April 2011 at Guildford’s Electric Theatre.
Joe St Johanser studied at the University of Surrey and has a special empathy with vocal music, particularly interesting texts.
The Tempest is Joe’s second opera and the focus is on serving Shakespeare’s magnificent text with music that is accessible yet fresh and original.
An accomplished singing actor himself, Joe has taken principal roles with Guildford Opera in a number of its productions and is delighted the company has chosen such a personal project to open its 40th anniversary season.
