Surrey has been chosen to hold the Olympic Cycle race! In 2005 when the bid was submitted, North London was the original route location, but that all changed with the Beijing Olympics where it was demonstrated that a rural 'out of town' route offered more challengers and was far more interesting from a spectator point of view.

The Mall will remain as the iconic start and finish for the race which runs through 156 miles fo Surrey countryside (87 miles for women).

The cyclists leave London over Hampton Court Bridge and then down past Weybridge, West Byfleet, and Ripley.

The route passes Guildford and then goes through, West Horsley, East Clandon, Gomshall, Westcott and Dorking to Box Hill where the cyclist will loop round Headley Heath.

The final leg is up through Leatherhead, past Oxshot, Esher and finally back to the Mall.
