Last week, courtesy of Surrey Chambers of Commerce, I found myself enjoying a beautiful balmy June evening in the grounds of Guildford Castle watching open air Shakespearean comedy at its best in the form of Love’s Labour’s Lost.
Performed by the Guildford Shakespeare Company in association with Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre and sponsored by Surrey Chambers, the play was a mix of high energy, hilarity and heartfelt emotions.
Centred around the lives and loves of the King of Navarre and his lordship friends and the Princess of France and her attendants, the setting is 1940s France which works well with the comedic and ironic tones throughout. And without giving too much away, the ladies most definitely have the last laugh…
Love’s Labour’s Lost is showing until this coming Saturday (3 July) – for last minute tickets visit www.guildford-shakespeare-company.co.uk or call 01483 304384. Alternatively, The Tempest will take place from Thursday 22 July to Saturday 7 August by the lake at the University of Surrey.
Enjoy!
