Local charity, Surrey Wildlife Trust, is encouraging budding photographers of all ages to dust of their cameras and get snapping with the launch of the Surrey Wildlife Trust Photography Competition.

Open to non-professional photographers, entries will be judged by internationally renowned wildlife photographer and author Heather Angel who, as well as presiding over the Royal Photographic Society from 1984-86, has held exhibitions in Kuala Lumpur, Cairo and Beijing to showcase her award-winning work.

The winning photographer will receive a personal tour of one of the trust’s reserves by a ranger, who will provide them with insider information and access to otherwise difficult-to-spot wildlife.  They will also have their entry published on the front page of the Surrey Wildlife Trust website and the spring 2012 addition of their Surrey Nature magazine.

Runner-up prizes include a digital camera and photography equipment vouchers.

The competition is split into two categories – adult (18 and over) and junior (17 and under) – and includes two themes: landscapes, and close-ups.

The deadline for entries is 31 December 2011.
