Photographer Hakan Dennersten’s second UK exhibition, Cash Cows, brings together work made over the last decade in Österlen, Sweden. This area of southeast Sweden is known for its artists and drawing

The exhibition starts with the section New Wave, bridging Dennersten’s past and present, which is a series of vinyl covers printed in just one copy; Hakan chose rust, colorful cars, and cows, all very present at Österlen. A series of landscapes and close-ups, The Black Hit of Space juxtaposes the natural landscape with human interventions, discarded items, and buildings that leave a slow, decaying effect on the environment. Taking on The World is a series of cow portraits that relate and resist a relationship with the people around them.

About
The love story between Hakan and Österlen is a tale of personal connection and deep appreciation. It began in 2005 when he fell in love with the view from the cottage he was only going “to have a look at,” not buy. The house is in the middle of a farm field at Månslunda on Österlen. The love grew, and in 2012, Hakan and his wife packed the car and moved permanently to the cottage in the middle of the field. In Månslunda, Hakan found nature, the magic light of Österlen and its wildlife. For him, the break of dawn is the best time to experience the tranquility at the watch when nature wakes up.

Hakan Dennersten has worked for magazines as DN, Veckorevyn Slitz, Damernas Värld, Berlingske Tidende. Hakan has shot James Brown, Stevie Wonder, U2, David Bowie, and Anita Ekberg, among many others. His first UK exhibition and publication, The Beauty in the Ravage of Time, occurred in Manchester in 2022.
