From the lowland Vale of Mowbray to the upland splendour of the famous Yorkshire Dales, this rural railway line passes through market towns, small villages, woodland and farmland, offering a great day out in some of England's most beautiful countryside.

The Wensleydale Railway is a tourist and heritage line starting at the County town of Northallerton to Redmire on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, passing through the Georgian market town of Bedale and the Dales market town of Leyburn, with constantly changing scenery, from the arable lands of the Vale of Mowbray in the East to the hills of the Yorkshire Dales in the West.

The line is predominantly heritage diesel line, with steam services operating over selected weekends, special events and the summer months.

You can start your journey at any of our stations along the line and, with our standard return, you can hop on and off the train at intermediate stations as many times as you like between your tickets start and end stations.

The Wensleydale Railway offers a range of driving experiences using diesel and steam traction - these experiences vary in depth from a single run light engine lasting about an hour to a full day hauling both freight and passenger vehicles.
