With unemployment at its highest for nearly two decades and companies cutting job opportunities, it is a difficult task trying to build a career. It can be hard to know what the next steps to take are. Job and careers fairs may seem like a thing of the past with the digital era and the internet taking over as the main canvas to advertise and apply for roles; however do not underestimate the power of meeting face to face.
Attending a job/career/recruitment fair can put you ahead of other candidates simply by meeting the company exhibiting at an event. There is a lot to be said for putting a face to a name and a casual conversation can have serious impact on your application. A face, name and conversation is a lot more memorable than a blank CV. Attending such an event demonstrates a proactive and motivated individual. Taking along a polished CV and dressing reasonably smart will give the right impression to the companies exhibiting, looking for their next employee.
Job and careers fairs are not one dimensional; there are other features that can be advantageous to those looking for a platform to their new job or career. Jobseekers can find the application and interview process extremely difficult and unsuccessful. If there is an opportunity to receive free CV and interview advice it would be a shame to miss out on getting yourself as competitive for the jobs market as you can be. Having an expert pair of eyes look at your CV and interview techniques is invaluable. Receiving feedback from an expert perspective may be what you really need to land you the job you want!
