Friends of Harrogate Hospital was set up by a group of volunteers in 1966. Over the years they have raised almost £2 million for the benefit of patients within the hospital and the community. We are always looking for volunteers to organise or help with fundraising events.
The NHS is limited to what they can buy and offer to our community, any funds we raise goes straight to the Harrogate Hospital for the benefit of everyone who lives in the District, making treatment in the hospital or at home, that bit more pleasant.
Friends of Harrogate Hospital decide how to use the funds by consulting the hospital staff. Every request is carefully reviewed to ensure it is not something that should be funded from NHS budgets and will provide additional benefit to the patients.
In 2004/5, Friends of Harrogate Hospital raised £335,000 for the MRI scanner building and support services, something close to the hearts of the local community. Recently we bought a portable ultra-sound scanner for the Early Pregnancy Unit and a Cardiovascular Ultrasound System for the Coronary Unit at the cost of £22,000 each.
We are always looking at interesting ways to fundraise and this year we have:
We collect old mobile phones for recycling, there is a box in the hospital foyer.
Did you know that we can provide speakers for clubs to talk about the work we do? If you are looking for speakers, do get in touch.
We are always looking for sponsors, if your business is looking for a worthy cause, then this one is a very good one! Our biggest event is the Big Picnic with a footfall of over 20,000 people, a great publicity opportunity for your business.
On the 1st July, 2016, Colette Lain will be replacing Ian Elliot as Chair, she will be the first female chair in 50 years.
If you are interested in sponsoring, volunteering or if you have any great fundraising ideas, please do get in touch! We are always looking for new members.
We need all the help we can get at our fundraising events.
Friends of Harrogate Hospital are under the umbrella of the Harrogate Community Charity – registered charity number 1050008
