In a bid to get young people more involved with sport, Harrogate College have launched a third sporting partnership, with Harrogate Spa Tennis Centre, that will offer every student studying at Harrogate College, the opportunity to play tennis, regardless of what they study.
This unique pathway offers an additional route for sports students as well as any other student studying on Harrogate College’s wide range of vocational qualifications, with a keen interest in tennis, the opportunity to take advantage of the partnership. Student players will have access to the team of Harrogate Spa Tennis Centre coaches, benefiting from their expertise and fantastic facilities.
The brand new partnership will allow both local Harrogate organisations to work together to get young people interested in and partaking in tennis, not only through the summer months, but also the winter, with the HSTC’s plans to develop a facility that is in use all year round. Working alongside the centre will also bring further opportunities for students to embark on work experience with the club.
Debra Forsythe-Conroy, Harrogate College Principal, said: “We are once again delighted to be able to offer young people a new and exciting opportunity to get involved with sport, in partnership with Harrogate Spa Tennis Centre.
The partnership will provide students with some truly fantastic opportunities to work with tennis professionals in superb facilities and to develop skills within their chosen sport before their careers even begin! The benefits of this new partnership reach far beyond those students studying within the tennis academy – every learner with an enthusiasm for tennis will be able to develop their skills as well as have the opportunity to work with the growing Harrogate Spa Tennis Centre.
“Harrogate College is very much looking forward to welcoming our first group of budding tennis players this September 2017!”
Carolyn Rothwell, Tennis Director of Harrogate Spa Tennis Centre says:
"Harrogate Spa Tennis Centre has six brand new outdoor tennis courts and a fully inclusive coaching programme run by Tennis Harrogate. Working together with Harrogate College and their students will produce home grown tennis players and coaches of the future. With an indoor tennis court facility planned for HSTC, Harrogate can become a centre of excellence for sport in Yorkshire."
The partnership follows the success of Harrogate College’s link with Harrogate Town AFC and brand new collaboration with Rudding Park Golf Academy, all with an aim of getting students involved with a variety of sport opportunities.
