The Tour de Yorkshire 2017
The Tour de Yorkshire is coming to Harrogate on the 29th April. Starting in Tadcaster and following a 122km route around some of our dramatic and beautiful countryside, historic towns and villages to the finish line in Harrogate.
Firstly, the women’s race, followed by the men’s 2nd stage race.

Road Closures
There will be a continuous rolling road closures ahead of the race which last approximately 40 minutes.
To facilitate the safety of the race and event there will be other road closure that will last longer.
These will likely be Bridge Street in Tadcaster; Market Place West in Ripon; Parliament Street in Harrogate
There will be traffic management and a temporary one way system in Lofthouse going up the hill.

Enjoy your day
The Tour de Yorkshire is not just a bicycle race but a celebration of Yorkshire and to enjoy the community spirit, have a great day out in one of the most beautiful parts of this country. There are many places to watch the women’s and men’s race and then to enjoy your day.
It is free to watch at the roadside, at the start and finish.
Some places will be more popular than others and fans will be coming early to get their position so please plan your day beforehand.
Check the race fixtures as some places have locations that the competitors get extra points, and point jerseys so it will be exciting to see who crosses the line.
Please check the weather on your departure and have the appropriate clothing, some of the places along the route will be exposed and a lot colder.
The energy and anticipation of the start
Meet the riders and get some signatures of top athletes along with souvenirs at the start of the race in Tadcaster. There will be a large viewing screen and another fun activity. Tadcaster is celebrating the opening of the bridge that was damaged in 2015 floods when the riders cross the bridge to start the race.
The red flag will be lowered to start the racing and set the cyclists minds ready for the sprint at Knaresborough.
Enjoy a day in Wetherby
Get parked up early and have a walk along the river before breakfast in one of the many fantastic cafes this beautiful market town has to offer ready to watch both races or
The First Sprint
After the women’s race go to Knaresborough ready for the first sprint of the stage to compete for the Sprint Jersey at the end of the 2nd Stage. Be careful of your journey and road closures.
Have a chance to watch both races at a slower pace.
Although not the official hill test to be the King of Mountains Burnt Yates is still a testing hill in a beautiful village looking over Nidderdale and area of outstanding beauty. It will give you a chance to make a noise cheering your favourite cyclist on.

Festivities in Pateley Bridge
The bustling town of Pateley Bridge have lots of events and entertaining planned for the event so why not chill out and spend a great day enjoying the race, the entertainment and the ambience of a fantastic historic North Yorkshire town

The King of the Hill
It wouldn’t be a great tour without the gruelling and brutal test of a Hill. The ascent of Trapping Hill will offer an insight into the commitment and strength of top athletes. It will be an experience!
As Lofthouse has limited parking facilities organisers are asking people to park in Pateley Bridge and cycle up to Lofthouse, it is an easy gradient and the 6.5 miles, so take your time and enjoy the countryside. Why not combine a great day in Pateley Bridge but catch either the Women or Men taking on the hill climb?

Have fun in Masham
I am going to biased as it is my home town and guess where I will be? I will be enjoying all the fun and entertaining this wonderful friendly market town has to offer. Lots of things to do

Why not combine 2 places for each race and watch either the Men’s or Women’s race in West Tanfield, was a popular location during the Tour de France in 2014; do not forget to enjoy the refreshments that local business has worked so hard organising for you.
Ripon is going to be special
Ripon is the market town before the finish with a special market of arts, crafts and food along with all the great places to visit to make a fantastic day out.
Ripon will get a sprint stage in which the cyclist will be going at phenomenal speeds.
Make sure you go to the museums and the Cathedral.

The Finishing Line
The final mile into Harrogate will present the nail biting drama in dramatic backdrop of the Royal Hall and the final sprint at the Stray to the finish line.
It will be party time in the Fan Zone with a big screen, food and drink with events happening over the 3 days of the Tour de Yorkshire.
The atmosphere will be electric so why not spend a long weekend in one of the fantastic hotels or B&B’s in Harrogate.
Ambassadors of Yorkshire
The Tour de Yorkshire is an amazing event to showcase our area on stage 2. It will bring many tourists to the Towns and Villages and revenue. The event will be covered by ITV/ITV4 and Eurosport which will be a massive advertisement for our area across the world.
It is a lovely opportunity for communities to get together and for the people of this area to extend our warm friendliness to visitors near and far to a place we are very fortunate to live in.
