It has just been announced that the street lights in Haverhill will be staying on later throughout Christmas and New Year’s Eve, with lights only being turned off at 1am between Boxing Day and December 30th and staying on all night tomorrow, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.
Having recently invested in a £2.5 million intelligent lighting system, the council is able to adjust Haverhill’s lights to suit the community’s needs at different times of the year.
As Suffolk County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Roads and Transport, Councillor Guy McGregor explained: “We understand how important it is for people in our county to feel safe over Christmas and the New Year, when they are more likely to be celebrating late into the night.”
So whatever your plans, it’s reassuring to know that your journey home will be well-lit – whether tottering in heels or dressed in a Superman suit!
Still unsure as to what you’re doing this New Year’s Eve? Why not take a look at thebestof Haverhill’s suggestions?
