In recent times this number has grown to about 2000 making Kedington one of the largest villages in the county. As Kedington has developed, so have its locals and the land. Today Kedington is the home to a number of successful businesses and local amenities, including a Primary School, Library, Church, Pub, Mini Supermarket, Newsagents and Post Office, Hairdressers, Butchers to name a few.
St Peter and St Pauls Church:
Kedington Church St Peter and St Pauls dates back to the late 13th Century making it one of the oldest Churches in the county. St Peter and St Pauls is a completely unmodernised, well-treasured Church.
Local villagers run an Open Gardens fundraising event every year for the Church Restoration Fund. This year’s open garden event will be held on Sunday 20th July. Why not come along and join the friendly locals and other visitors walking around the village in a leisurely manner, enjoying the range of beautiful well cared for gardens on show, you will be donating to a great cause! What better way to spend a (hopefully!) sunny Sunday! You might even find inspiration to give your own garden the make over you have been putting off! Make a day of it by indulging in a Ploughman’s Lunch at Orchard House, Mill Road from 12 to 2pm, with wine, beer and a variety of cold drinks. Cream Teas will also be available at the Church itself between 3pm and 6pm.
The village contains a number of public facilities including a library, doctors surgery, primary school, the Barnardiston Arms, better know as the ‘Barny Arms’ by the locals, a number of parks for families to play and make the most of the good weather, as well as a number of scenic walking trails in and around the village for the adventurous.
Kedington central parade contains a Newsagents and Post Office, hairdressing Salon 56, Kedington Butchers and Happy Inn Chinese Take Away. A few minutes walk away is Nisa Local, so if you have forgotten something in your weekly supermarket shop you can grab it here without having to drive back into town. A mini supermarket on your doorstep!
The County Council Library is based in one part of the village community centre which is commonly used by local sports clubs. The large meadow surrounding the community centre is used to host many sporting events as well as the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Meadowlark Festival.
Kedington has proven to be a very popular village to live in as it provides the peaceful, friendly neighbourhood which is desirable and at the same time provides a number of amenities for the local community. It also has good transport links to the nearest town of Haverhill which is only a short drive away.
