Derbyshire Trading Standards are raising awareness of a scam doing the rounds at the moment, where you might get an unsolicited telephone call from a company offering you a free boiler inspection.
Sounds good right - but there's a catch (isn't there always!!) The traders say you can get the inspection but then they request £299 for a Green Deal Assessment.
As you might have guessed - once you've paid this fee you hear nothing more from the company and no assessment or inspection takes place!
Many of the people caught out by this scam have reported that the callers are claiming that these assessments are part of the much publicised Government Grants available under the new Green Deal.
Trading standards advise that you should never give personal details out to anyone who calls you unexpectedly by telephone or in person, and never give you details relating to your bank accounts or credit cards.
If you think you've been affected by this, or any other scam, you can report it to the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 08454 040506 or visit the website www.adviceguide.org.uk.
