Amber Valley Borough Council has teamed up with Heanor and Loscoe Town Council and a number of local sports clubs and community organisations to announce plans for a £2m development of the Charles Hill Playing Field at Loscoe, near Heanor.
The plans include a new grass junior football pitch, floodlit full size league standard artificial grass pitch, and replacement pavilion to include additional changing rooms and multi-use community room.
The cost of the new centre is being met through a commitment of £1 million from Amber Valley Borough Council with the remainder of the funding being sought by a new Community Interest Company (CIC) comprising the local sports clubs, through a range of grant applications.
Construction could begin as soon as March 2013 and the new pitch could be ready for use within months.
Kevin O'Kine, Chairman of the new CIC said -
"All the members of the new Charles Hill Centre CIC have worked hard to develop this exciting Master Plan which will secure the future of the site for generations of users. With the support of the Council we can now move to the Planning Application stage. We have a way to go to raise the capital to make this plan a reality but with the backing of the community and local businesses these facilities will put Charles Hill on the map as a number one sporting destination."
Kirk Monk, Assistant Director for Wellbeing at Amber Valley Borough Council said:
"Approval of the next stage will bring about major changes at the site and will make sure that facilities there can match our aspirations with the CIC to bring a first class sports and community facility that will benefit the whole borough."
